All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    1979 GS550E restoration

Be very careful removing the bolts holding the pipe on the head. It's real easy to break them off, then you have another problem to fix. (Ask me how I know about this.) There are several threads here about removing the bolts without breaking them, and several more about getting the broken bolts...

Added to the GS family again!

Is that the v-twin Ascot or the vertical-twin Ascot? My bad: Is that the v-twin version or the 500 thumper version? tried a ride on a v-twin Ascot about the time they were in dealers and was disappointed by the lack of power. Oh well it's a 500. Maybe its time to take another look, haven't seen...

Gofast Innovations updated website with new tools!

I've just ordered mine. I have been waiting for someone to do this. As I recall Suzuki included a tool for holding the swingarm up in toolkits for shafties. This made it easier to remove the rear wheel. Haven't seen one for a long time.

    1984 Katana 7/11

Cheers Pete. Way back in the Original Post of this thread, you said you'd always wanted a Kat of your very own. Well.....this is your very own Kat. Suzuki couldn't take more credit than you for the build. I bow

How many GS's is too many GS's?

Anyways, am I crazy? What would you guys have if money/space wasn't an issue? Sounds like Jay Leno. The were only few thousand GS's built (got no idea how many, sorry.) You can have only that many, minus the one I wrecked.

Best speed/rpm for fuel economy? GS850

My 850 is as stock as I can make it, and on a 140-mile(each way) trip 1.5 years ago, I was usually running 4k rpm and getting 43 mpg. That gives me 60 mph. That's loafing for the 850, but I'm not the speed demon I was 40 years ago.

    switch assembly, ignition

The problem with it is it's worn out. The fit is sloppy, and sometimes goes too far in. I think I'll try a used parts place near here first (D & A Cycle Salvage, in Decatur.) I don't really want a used part, but..oh well.

    switch assembly, ignition

Does anyone know where one of these could be found, new? It doesn't seem like any part seller has one. (I did see one for $260. Ain't no way I'm paying that.) This is for an 81 gs850, p/n 37100-45100 or -45101. I will buy used if I must, but new is always better.

    My starter button fell out!

Those buttons are molded in one piece with a collar on the inside end. If the collar has broken off (what it sounds like) then the button will need to be replaced. Finding replacement internal parts for the handlebar control units is a non-trivial task. Best bet would be that some kind member...

GS1100GK engine rattle at low revs

I've had 2 gs1100e's and they both had that rattle. I always put it down to detonation, and once tried a colder plug for that. It did some good, didn't eliminate the noise altogether.
