I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

When the time comes to set up the 38 mm Flat-Slides I'll post the details here, I want to get in some riding before swapping the carbs so it wont happen too soon, but it will happen.

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

The engine needed a replacement breather vent catch can fitted and it had to be light. I found a small Denso oil cooler from a petrol powered garden rotary hoe that looked like it would do the job. The catch can is installed behind the battery and this location helps to keep the build looking a...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Swapping the 36mm CV carbs for 38 mm flat-slide carbs will help with performance but they will also add a few extra grams to the build so time to start looking at swapping or modifying parts to off-set the weight gain with the 38 mm flat-slides. The first part that will be swapped is one that I...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hi Steve, it will be awhile before the RS flat slides are installed, need to sort out super light weight spun aluminium velocity stacks, twin cables and switchblock throttle before the carbs can be bolted on. I am hoping this chapter will be shorter than it was setting up the 36mm CV's, now that...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

There I was happy as a clam after dialing in the carbs and getting the Kat running oh so good and then, I get asked, "How would you like to fit a set of Mikuni 38mm flat slides to the DW?" I have ridden Kats with 38 mm flat-slides and WOW, they are a weapon! With the time and effort invested to...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

With more ride time on the DW I am now getting a better feel for how I want to set things up, like last week with the suspension and tyre pressure. Next on the list is how I want to position the bars. The clip-ons are an aftermarket two part system with the bar using a spline to engage the clamp...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hi Andrew, your eagle eye has spotted the two oil temp sensors. The OEM sensor on the block is not connected to a read out (1135 clocks not being used) so I have installed a temporary (the red sensor in the pic) oil temp sensor and digital readout to monitor oil temps during the bedding in...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

At last, a fine sunny day! Took the DW out for a test ride with the latest main jets and the 02 sensor numbers are looking pretty good. From idle at 12.7 through the 5 throttle settings to WOT at 13.2, not perfect but pretty close. Speed readings for 40 kph, 60 kph, 80 kph and 100kph are all...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Yeah, totally agree with you on that one, carbs off, carbs on with the stock airbox is no fun at all! Changing the main jets with the carbs in place is doable and as you say patience is the key when doing it that way. A short shank angled blade screwdriver made to length would be helpful...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

Hoping the weather is fine at some stage over the weekend so I can take the DW on test ride with the latest main jets that I installed this week. I noticed an oil weep around the oil sensor plate, checked the plate while the carbs were removed and sure enough the oil pressure o-ring and oil...

Yep, WOT means the same thing here. It'll be a pity to see you go however, I understand you have to standby your values. Hope you don't pick up a repetitive strain injury tapping "Delete". ;)

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

The test ride with the new jets went pretty well and the 02 readings have the carbs almost in the sweet spot, almost. WOT is still the problem child however, another jet size up should fix the issue. I am out of jets now so the next size will be ordered today and should arrive by next Monday all...

Clutch drag. Different lever perch gs/gsx?

Sounds like clutch plates are binding. Plates that have done many km sometimes create wear pattens that can make it difficult to select neutral with the engine running. One way to check is to remove the clutch plates, shuffle them around, flip them over and then install them in the correct...

    1981 GSX1100 Katana Based Project

The 02 sensor reading shows that at WOT things could be improved a fraction by going up a size in main jets so today was swapping main jets day. Removing and installing the carbs is so quick and easy on this build because it isn't fitted with an airbox, with the tank off and throttle cable...
