A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1977 GS400 help with mystery of the right ignition points

Here is the GS400 wiring diagram, in color, I found on BassCliff’s page: https://onedrive.live.com/?sc=documents&cid=2370B62DDF9F0C6B&id=2370B62DDF9F0C6B%211033&parId=2370B62DDF9F0C6B%211030&o=OneUp

1977 GS400 help with mystery of the right ignition points

Okay, forget what I wrote above. I found a GS400 wiring diagram and I see that the GS400 has dual coils. The GS400 feeds the ignition coils roughly battery voltage and the ignition points provide ground side control of coils. What that means is most of the voltage is dropped across the coils...

1977 GS400 help with mystery of the right ignition points

Okay, please note that this is coming from an old Ford Flathead guru. Looks to me like the right hand set of points is open. If a GS400 is a twin cylinder? And a parallel twin at that?, and both pistons go up and down together, then that ignition system may use TWO sets of points to make the...

No Spark either side till i release the starter button

This is interesting. When you jumper the Red and Orange wire to bypass the ignition switch contacts, AND let the ignitor turn the coils on and off while engine is being cranked by jumpering the starter solenoid NO Sparky at plugs. But in a previous post where you supplied power AND ground to...

No Spark either side till i release the starter button

Here is a longer version with actual voltage drop testing. Note that it doesn’t mater if the circuit being tested is the starter circuit, or the coil circuit, hone circuit, etc. Electricity is electricity. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DfLyh43iihM&pp=QAFIAQ%3D%3D

    Racing idle 1977 GS400

Where is your fuel level? You might be able to lower the float adjustment a mm or 2 (which would raise the fuel level in the float chamber) and make it easier for the existing pilot jet to draw in a smidgion more fuel.

Oh, okay. Thanks Rich. I didn’t realize that on your machine that the tool bag plate goes over the top of the solenoid and fuse box. So to access your fuses you just take off the tool bag plate. So if it ever cools off here in Upstate NY I will have more ideas to sort this “real...

Gs550 1979 led blinkers flash erratically

What has changed? Might be time to fire up the amp clamp and measure the amp load going through the flasher with and without the engine running. I would also try running the R/R output directly into the harness load instead of to the battery + post. Could just be that the battery draw AND the...

    Cylinder three running extremely hot

The intake air going through the carburetor creates a vacuum that “lifts” the fuel out of the float bowl into the various channels in the carb. The higher the fuel level in the float bowl the easier it is to “lift” the fuel a very short height. The lower the fuel level, the vacuum has to “lift”...

    1982 GS750T cranks but won't start

I’m trying to follow along, but do you mean you timed the cams according to the manual? Or did you time the ignition? Maybe you did both? Perhaps you could give a somewhat detailed description of just what your “rebuilt from the ground up” entailed.

    1982 GS750T cranks but won't start

No fire even with starting fluid, I’ll take that as an ignition problem, but would feel better if you had laid a spark plug on the cylinder head and cranked it. Did this ground up rebuild have any impact on cam timing or valve lash?

    1982 GS750T cranks but won't start

Are the spark plugs wet or dry? Is there fuel in the float bowls? Is there spark at the business end of the spark plugs?

    82 gs850g loses spark

Sounds like that is the ground for the starter relay. Prolly goes to the fram to ground the starter relay. (Note: I don’t have a wiring diagram to verify that wire color).

    System Relay Mod

So, here’s my SWAG: Your original relay went bad. Not sure just what type of relay it was. It sounds to me like you have one ignition coil wired to pin 87 and the other wired to pin 87A. It also sounds to me that your pin 30 is hot at all times, even with ignition switch off. With your...
