A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Question about Float Height

Here's a handy trick. Scribe a mark 5 mm down from the mating surface of each float bowl. Then use a sight tube. This gives you the real world static fuel height.

Increased engine chatter - Decreased power

The tension on the chain should be constant through the full loop of the chain. The chain shouldn't have slack points/tight points. The auto (anti-reverse) cam chain tensioner would have to back (reverse) out in order for the cam chain to go slack at any point, or the tensioner is at the end of...

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

The 650E is chain drive and derived from the 550 (roller crank), while some parts are interchangeable, the 650G shaft engine (plain bearing crank) is a new (at the time) design.

IGNITION TIMING, Stock Signal Generator Installation

This is from the manual You need to set the timing using a (Xenon) timing light. Connect the timing light to the cylinder number one sparkplug lead. Check the ignition against the the 1.4 timing mark line closest to the line marked "T" (TDC) at idle. More important is the timing at full...

    Starter motor gear shaft problem?

True, but the issue with the relay not being well earthed is not a bad earth though the crankcase, which is the earth for the starter motor but not the relay. If this earth is bad, there is often enough electromagnetic force to 'click' the relay but not enough to make a good contact...

    Starter motor gear shaft problem?

I've had the same (intermittent) problem. Click, followed by either slow crank or no crank. I disassembled the starter motor, cleaned the commutator with Emery cloth, blasted out the starter motor with electrical cleaner, and replaced the relay with no real improvement. The starter worked...

    Gone Around the Clock

Happy Re-Birthday to my 750 Kat. The rebuild was completed at 92,000 km, with mild port work, valve seat recut, squish clearance at 0.7 mm, hone and new rings. So with 8K under her belt she's well run in. Eaten through a rear tyre (just replaced). It fuels crisply, has good mid and some top...

    Loaded question gs or cb

If I'm not mistaken, the CB650 was the last of the single stick Honda Fours, so last in the lineage from the original CB750. And that is, IMHO, it's only interesting feature. I borrowed/rode one for a short time in the 1980s and it wasn't particularly memorable. Wikipedia say's it was built on...

    Bike stalls after 5 minutes

Well that makes sense! I wouldn't worry too much about engine damage. Fuel dilution lowers the viscosity, but at idle its unlikely you wouldn't have been putting enough load on the oil film to destroy the boundary layers and thus the lubrication and allow metal on metal contact. Plus the...

GS850GL plea for help - bike won't pull past 5000 rpm

If it were me, I'd start by checking that the timing marks advance to full advance at 2750 rpm with a strobe. I'd also check the nitrile rubber plugs that cover the pilot jets are sealing properly.

    Bike stalls after 5 minutes

Fault finding is always a process of elimination, and you've taken the petcock out of the equation, so.... your down to just the carbs. Just checking that you have blocked off the vacuum hose? I'm assuming that you have, you just didn't mention it. I had a similar problem with the bike idling...
