A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what did you wrench on today??

Putting the KZ400B back on the road. It's my son's bike. He's in BC now riding a RE Continental GT up from his previous TUX. Last time he had the 400 out it dumped a tank of petrol into the sump. The tap was leaking on Run but not Res. The backing plate on the air side of the diaphragm had...

    starter selinoid fails

This was for me a benefit of using one of the solenoid mounting posts as the single point ground. Halfway between battery and r/r, within range of the two ring terminals above the airbox and in plain sight, almost :)

    New GS1000 member question

I'm looking at parts 55 and 20 ? Just checked over to the 850 and it looks similar. https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs850g-1981-x-e01-e02-e04-e17-e18-e21-e22-e24-e25-e26-e34-e39_model13500/partslist/FIG-15.html

    New GS1000 member question

https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs1000g-1980-t-usa-e03_model15990/partslist/BLCK0052.html This should help identify the seals in the box. You will likely need new gaskets for the clutch and generator covers and the oil pan. Will need a threebond or similar product to seal the cases. There is also a...

Quite a find however you did it. By the powers vested in me I hereby appoint you chief custodian of records :)

    New GS1000 member question

You could end up diluting the gear oil to the point of frustrating the designers decision that those particular gears need heavier oil. There have been a few cases on here where that box locked up underway. I don't recall any smoking gun but that seal failure is surely up there as a possible...

    New GS1000 member question

That's a serious leak. Given that the original function of that vent was to prevent the seals in the secondary being pressurised and there is clearly an internal 'vent' to the crankcase, maybe it's not needed anymore? Thinking on my feet here but blocking that vent may reduce the flow of...

    New GS1000 member question

2BRacing took the words out of my mouth. The oil level in my bike is always well over the level mark when I change and the dark colour says engine oil getting in. I'm not going anywhere near it anytime soon. I change the gear oil regularly and at my mileage that's good enough for me. I also...

    Oil pressure

How are you measuring the oil pressure?

    Just bought A Beemer

I'm sort of in the same place. Had an 83 R100RT and loved it. The GS850G is getting a bit heavy and a nice R80 airhead seems to fit the bill. The R80ST, if you could find one at a terrestrial price, comes in at just under 400 lbs dry. R80R put me off when you start figuring the complexity of...

Help , how to get to oil pump screen

    This any help? https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs425-1979-n-usa-e03_model16012/partslist/BLCK0036.html

    Oddity on 3 cylinder

If that inline fuel filter is for pressure pumped systems you might be starving fuel and there is always one in the litter that feels it first? Mixture screw having no effect doesn't seem right and points a finger at that carb at least?

The one that has the leak? :) Maybe if you've seen enough you know the most likely?

    Bad Compression? How to fix?

The wet test adds some oil through the spark plug holes. If the rings are worn this will seal them up to an extent and give higher compression readings.

No gas getting to the engine of a 1983 GS450E?

I would open a float bowl drain screw with the tap on prime and catch everything that comes out in a jar. Leave it run for ten seconds or more. Dirt can get hung up in the float valve and by dropping the float fully the gap opens enough to let it through. If the flow looks too little or nothing...

    Bad Compression? How to fix?

What they said and are you sure the valve timing is correct. Have you done both wet and dry tests? No improvement on wet would be a strong pointer to valves.

    Melted connection? 450t

Can you identify the original colours of the wires at the centre of the melt? AFAIK that bike has the stator loop to the switchgear as standard wiring W/R and W/G. What way is your generator wired, all three phases direct to the regulator?

    o rings between head studs?

The four corners are the oil riser and return galleries. The head gasket has four supplemental seals which can be part of the gasket itself. In the attached picture you can see three of the four metal washer seals with rubber remaining on one. These may have been attached to the gasket and came...

    Did I do this right?

Yeah, check the voltage at the coil side of the splice and it could be the other wire is acting up. Measure the voltage at the coil side of the supply wire. Ideally no more than a Volt below battery terminal voltage. On the ground side measure the voltage drop across the splice/connector. 90% of...

Field-repairing a broken clutch cable: Cable ends

And guess what, as soon as you pack a spare they never break again :) I broke a clutch cable on a Z650 forty years ago, a hundred miles to run in the rain. It was all open road so it wasn't any bother, more of a nuisance. Bike was less than two years old with about twenty thousand on the clock...
