A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    82 GS 860G DECAL SET

Thanks, Rich. It's gold pinstripe tape that was cleared over. Quite simple to apply, and just cost a few bucks.

Simple pinstripe tape can easily replicate those stripes. Save money. That's what I used for this tank. 017 by nessism, on Flickr

Restoring '83 GS1100GK to full touring glory

You just replied to a 15-year-old post, and Hoffman isn't a member here any longer. Regarding your question, a GK without the touring stuff is very similar to a regular GS1100G, which many here love.

DIY Damping Rod Tool for my 79 GS850G

The hex on the bottom of a common spark plug socket is the correct size. Use a long extension, or stack a few, to get the length you need, and put the extension in backwards.

    Rotor replacement

Rotors almost never fail. The only times I've heard about them failing it was because the magnets came loose. First step to fixing a GS charging system is getting an SH775 R/R. Don't buy a fake, make sure SH775 is printed on the top fin. When it comes in, wire it like this. In the mean...

    1985 GS300L - Fuel screw adjustment

You can try lifting the needle a little. That should help the bike warm up faster. These old GS's are known to be cold blooded, particularly the later year variants and twins.

The links in my signature must have suffered from the new forum software migration. Anyway, fixed them... Sorry about that.

    1985 GS300L - Fuel screw adjustment

There is no set point for the pilot screws. At the factory, Suzuki tuned them with an emission sniffer for EPA compliance. For us, all these years later, you should set them to about 2 turns out, then tweak them until you achieve the highest idle setting. Try to get the screws within 1/2 turn...

what did you wrench on today??

No need to remove that stuff. Look at the service manual. Do it if you want more wiggle room, but it shouldn't be necessary. That said, I'd be checking the valve clearances straight away, so removing the valve cover will be needed. And removing the sump will allow you to check the oil pump...

what did you wrench on today??

Your previous post mentions wanting to remove the engine complete but it's too tall. Not that it's too heavy. Since that's been clarified, I suggest using a jack under the engine to support it, then slide it off onto a milk crate or similar. Alternate is to lay the bike down on it's side...

what did you wrench on today??

Pages 3-2 to 3-5 detail how to remove the engine from the frame, and the head and valve cover are still installed. What are you referring to?

Factory pilot screw adjustment is based on emissions requirements. Start at 2 turns, and then tune for the highest idle speed. And don't forget to perform a vacuum sync job.

    630 to 530 chain/sprockets on 1981 GS750L - Do it?

    Front sprocket is 15T 630, replace with 18T 530 to maintain the same diameter. Origional ratio = 40/15 = 2.667 Rear sprocket = 2.667x18 = 48T Origional chain = 96 links x 3/4" between links = 72" long chain For a 530 chain, which uses 5/8" between links, you have 72/(5/8) = 115.3, so use a...

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

Send that Aramox R/R back to Amazon, and buy a Shindengen SH775 off ebay instead. Your bike uses a standard three-phase permanent magnet alternator. GS bikes don't use excited field. When searching for a SH775, be aware that there are tons of fakes in the marketplace. Look for a used one...

#3 cylinder pipe cold and oil leaking from #3 cylinder

Follow the factory method to adjust the valves. They adjust in pairs so that two adjacent valves are on the base circle at the same time, that way the adjacent valve isn't depressed and pushing up on the cam, skewing it in the journal clearance.
