A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    My 82 GS650GZ Build

Great info, thanks guys. I finished the install a couple weeks ago, then tore it down to check valves. The valve cover gasket disintegrated when I did that, so it sat while I waited on a new one. I should’ve made my own using the guid on bikecliff’s site. New brakes have probably 100 miles on...

    My 82 GS650GZ Build

Another view since you can only upload 1 photo per post. This was from about a month ago with OE brake system.

    My 82 GS650GZ Build

I picked this 82 650 a little over a year ago and have spent quite a bit of time fixing and upgrading since then. I actually have a couple photos floating around here, but it sat most of the summer (Phoenix is hot) and I’ve spent a few months sorting things out. First was basic stuff: plugs...

Twinpot Brake upgrade on 78 Skunk

Add my 82 650G to the list. Just finished this evening: CBR600F4 rotors, EX650 calipers and master cylinder. I wasn't able to do much testing because the left side CB rotor was warped. I weighed all parts and shaved 946g (2.09 lb) off the front, all of which is unsprung and most of which is in...

    Fork Seal Snap Ring

Great info, thanks guys. I was able to get a small pick behind the broken ring eventually, then use a small flat head to work it out of the groove. I measured the other snap ring at almost 2” OD on the dot, which is 50.8mm. Thickness is .069” = 1.76mm. Looks like those from McMaster check out!

    Fork Seal Snap Ring

I’m replacing fork seals in my ‘82 GS650G since my left side is leaking. The right side snap ring was buggered up pretty good and broke as I was removing it. I’ve looked it up but the PN I’m finding (51156-01A00) doesn’t look like what’s in my forks. I have typical inside snap rings with eye...

    Quick Carb Jet Questions

It’s a respray, a solid 20-footer. I do like the color. The guy I bought it from had the seat redone and quick-sprayed it. I’ve replaced gauges (with those from a 81), done brakes, cleaned up wiring, upgraded R/R to Compufire, replaced lighting and removed the rear splash guard. I’ll need tires...

    Quick Carb Jet Questions

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the DJ kit since the OE needles aren’t easily tunable. I just wish I understood how DJ jet sizes (kit comes with 155 and 160) compare to stock (110). Thanks all for your input.

    Quick Carb Jet Questions

Plugs don’t look too bad, but then I haven’t isolated them (check at idle, check at midrange, check at WOT). I might give the additional washers above the clip a try to lower the needle and lean it out. Otherwise I have no issue with the DJ kit, as it would allow more adjustment.

    Quick Carb Jet Questions

Hey all, I picked up an 82 GS650 shafty a few months ago. I’ve noticed that it has a flat spot in the midrange between ~4-6k rpm when I get on it. Bike idles fine, though there’s the smallest hint of off-idle stumble, and gets 39mpg on mostly 45 mph city roads. PO put cheap pods on, otherwise...
