    81 850gl Power Lower

Valve clearances were great along with compression when I got the bike. Have done about 200kms since then. All cylinders are firing. I will do another compression test this weekend. Mechanical advance moves freely but will check with a timing light

    81 850gl Power Lower

Hi guys. 81 gs850gl New Ricks stator, MOSFET reg/rec, eBay coils, new clutch and springs. 4 into 1 exhaust and pods tuned with the Dynojet kit It was running amazing. Awesome power for 850. However, now it runs, revs, idles fine but just seems to be about 15 to 20 percent down on power...

    Piston Condition

Sorry guys , I did voice to text on that post while in the gym. Asking about pistons. Fixed the first post It's a 1980 gs850g. I removed it to inspect for damage after the tensioner failed.

Hi guys, based on this image, would you clean up the piston, measure and replace rings and hone the cylinder or would you replace it? 1980 gs850g

    Degreed Cams

Hi guys. So the cam gears on this engine are slotted and we're at some point the timing was degreed. I'll probably just go back to standard if I can line it up. As for the 90 degree wheel, I mean it just has 4 90 degree quadrants which I find annoying.

    Timing chain replacement without teardown

Hey guys. Is there an option for a split-link chain that is suitable for the 79 and 80 gs850g? I'm pulling the head on the 80 but I also want to swap the chain for piece of mind and I'm hoping to avoid pulling it further apart than I need to.

    Performance parts for gs850g.

What will the trade off be if I use the 750 cams?

    Performance parts for gs850g.

Thanks Bwringer. The reason for the work is just in case I need to.ooen it up. It slipped time and I will want to remove the head and check valves and the piston tops at a minimum. If they are fine I won't need to do any more besides resetting timing. I believe I may need a new timing chain...

    Performance parts for gs850g.

Compression test read 155, 155, 155, 160 and the rebuild was done in 2016. Good compression but not overly high

    Performance parts for gs850g.

Just curious about what performance engine parts are available for the 850g. I bought a bike with a claimed 11-1 high compression rebuild done but I'm unable to find evidence to support that claim nor can I find many parts online for the 85og. The are lots for the 750 and 1000/1100 but the...

    Degreed Cams

Hey guys. My 80 gs850g tensioner failed and jumped time. I'll be pulling the head to ensure there is no damage and I'll replace the timing chain and tensioner. The cam gears are slotted for degreeing so I'll need to do the same to ensure timing is correct. If anyone has done this on an 850g...

Increased engine chatter - Decreased power

It looks like they'd slotted the holes in the sprocket too. That's going to make things even more of a pita for me to dial it all back in as I'll have to degree it. What do you mean by checking the chain pitch ?

Increased engine chatter - Decreased power

Here is a more detailed video. At the point where the chain jumps it actually loses tension. So this combined with valve clearance and the sprockets being on the wrong cams would certainly lead to a lot of noise and poor running conditions? https://youtu.be/TRP12C6VG6k?si=Ac_iX5f09lkvnNt4

Increased engine chatter - Decreased power

https://youtube.com/shorts/Uiz5H9-YqoI?si=fCr8ZxmtvIXT-pAA Here is another issue I found The chain hops as it meshes with the top idler gear. Definitely a source of noise.

Increased engine chatter - Decreased power

Ok guys......I might be mistaken but is there something seriously wrong with this picture? Intake cam and ex are reversed. Now I know on some later models swapping cams can give you a boost, but that's usually swapping an intake in to the exhaust and keeping the existing intake in place. EDIT-...

Increased engine chatter - Decreased power

Well upon measuring 2 of the valves...clearance has made its way up to 0.11mm on the intake side

Compression is good on this one for its age. 160, 155, 160, 165
