A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Polaris SH775 Opinions??

thanks for the lesson i think?! I'm going to keep this build simple i think and just go stock. I have a completely dismantled 650 in the shed that will get the full cafe experience next winter.

    Polaris SH775 Opinions??

Nessism thanks that's good food for thought. I'm not married to the LI-ION, just looking at ideas to make an electronics box where my air box would have been and the size makes a big difference.

That's awesome thanks. I have a complete parts bike in the shed as well l, that is where I took the carb that I will be jetting eventually. I did find some nitrile Orings on Amazon and princess auto that would do the trick. Thanks again for the documents

    carb rebuild kit

As I posted that, I was thinking of exactly this as a response lol, yes I've read all your links many times over and damn it, I knew better but did it anyway. Lesson learned, once again your absolutely right. Guess I rationalized it knowing I was going to rejet anyway but I do wish the transfer...

    carb rebuild kit

Spare carbs are from my 81 gs650 parts bike completely pulled apart in boxes, easy grab.

    carb rebuild kit

So I fully expect some slack for this but being still new here let it rip. I'm half way through my rebuild on my 81 gs650 cafe racer. I have a spare carb so thought I'd rebuild it and pod it since i already had the pods sitting in the shop (queue first strike) so I went and order a rebuild kit...

    GS550 Valve Clearances

Hmm, I just did this on my 81 650GS and thought I was good to go, followed the book, which looks something like what Nessism posted above. Should I be concerned that I am too tight? Intake 1 - 4: 0.03, 0.06, 0.07, 0.05 and exhaust 0.07, 0.05, 0.04, 0.06 I figured being in the book range of...

    Another charging issue...

I put a new clutch cable in today, fixed my choke cable and tightened up the rear suspension so decided to go for a rip and did not do the full voltage test. I did however measure my battery before starting and came back after 35km with a nicely fully charged battery so i guess cleaning up the...

    stiff clutch issue

new clutch cable came in, I installed it using a slightly different route to minimize arc and compensate for handlebars. Result is much better, smoother right out the gate but still a little tight compared to my Kawasaki (maybe i should change that one also but that is for another day/forum...)...

    Another charging issue...

Jim, I was wrong in my original assumption that the output went directly to the battery. I measured this morning off the bullet to the battery and saw about 0.15V on average, it was a little choppy. I did revert back to the aftermarket R/R the previous owner put on and measured what was supplied...

    Another charging issue...

@Nessism I hooked up as per the drawing and measured an average of 0.15Vdc but it was pretty choppy so might be some badish wiring in there, thanks for that. I also measured from that R/R bullet to battery gnd as @pdqford indicated above once the bike was warmed up and did see voltages sitting...

    Another charging issue...

thanks Ed I can look at ordering that, shame I’m in BC, that seller is not too far from my old man’s place. You mentioned …” you will know that the problem isn’t the R/R” know I’ve read a lot of your comments and this forum, do you think I’m going the wrong way?

    Another charging issue...

I pulled that loop and isolated those wires, I have my meter fastened directly to the battery, am I wrong to think the R/R line feeds back directly there as well?

    Another charging issue...

Hi all, I know I know, another charging issue, let me start by saying yes I have read everything there is on this forum and bikecliff there is about stators and R/Rs, I am also a technologist so know my way around electrical systems. So with out further hobbling about posting, I have an 81...

what did you wrench on today??

Mucked around with a stiff clutch and did a compression test on the newest project bike. Also at 42 years old, learned how to use flickr. IMG_0088 by LMarJ2434, on Flickr

    stiff clutch issue

@Cipher thanks, that is how i noted it was routed wrong the first time, however this link with the bookmark tabs is way better than my PDF. I think where i have an aftermarket handle bar the routing might need to be different.

    stiff clutch issue

@Rich82GS750TZ at risk of taking away from my current clutch issue, where do can I enter my bikes info like everyone else (IE your quick links) has so I dont have to constantly put it in every time I have an issue, I updated the biography part in settings but looks like its a signature block?

    stiff clutch issue

@Rich82GS750TZ awesome thanks for that. I had to convert all the HEIC photos to work on my laptop but seems like Flickr doesnt care. Your quick links by the way were an invaluable life saver over the last few days!
