If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1 big air filter on ur airbox

timebombprod

Forum Sage
anyone ever think or see somebody put one huge airfilter on the second half of the airbox that attaches to the carbs? feel like it'd be a sweet middle for airpods and the full airbox system, still a 1 to 4 ratio but itd be a more direct airflow to the carbs, any thought or things you already know about it?

It works well. The late Sharpy on here was an advocate for doing it this way.
There's a K&N which fits straight onto the 1000's at least, it may fit others too.

Just remember that as soon as you start changing the air filter set-up there is a good chance you will have to start changing the carb jetting.

Best to get it running well with stock setup.....later you can get ambitious .[/QUOTE

yeah ive been told that before and im gonna stick to it i dont know anything bout rejetting and ive been told some pieces can only be modified so much by steve, i definitely got plans on what i wanna do to my bike but it shouldnt be a full on racebike since theres better platforms out there for that, maybe just a bike to mess with cars and bikes on the straights, theres so many harley and new supersport guys here but ive seen a few ujm bikes an older sportbikes

Hmm, I used to have a picture of this setup. I have my '83 750T setup the same way you are describing. I used the (what I would call) plenum box, and fit a K&N over the mouth of that. Works very well, but you will MOST definitely need to re-jet...

I have been on this site for a while and involved in motorcycling for quite a few years before that, but have never heard of this "UR" brand of airbox. Is it something new? Is it better than stock?

sorry, "your", why do i have to be so grammatically correct lol u know what i meant

Invented in the city of Ur, Mesopotamia, in around 3,500 BCE, it was a device that noblemen used to stick their heads in to filter out the noxious odours of camels, oxen and persons of lower social status surrounding them.

Found it in the old thread I made about it... https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?197644-No-more-pods-!-!-!&highlight=

I've seen that approach used with a CBX, the owner says it was a big improvement over 6 individual pods. He didn't say it was as good as with the oem airbox. You would still have issues with side drafts if it's exposed, and the engine will also sustain internal wear faster.

As the cbx is another level of complexity dropping the engine every time you need re-jet requires extraordinary patience (4-6hrs process depending on experience). I have yet to encounter a CBX owner who said he had better performance from eliminating the airbox. I know a number who have put back the oem airbox.

EDIT:my bad I woke up this morning and remembered once pods are on CBX the engine no longer needs to be tilted for removal. Still the push pull throttle cables are a major pain in the butt to detach and re attach.

it still has a 4:1 since theres half of the airbox but yeah they designed the airbox a certain way for a reason cant really beat it other than pods if its a track bike

talking about a gs ofcourse 6 carbs is alot of syncing lol

When I bought my bike, it had K&N pods. They threw 140 main jets in it, and a few metal washers stacked to raise the needles. I don't I have to say it ran JUST ok. I rebuilt the carbs properly, and it ran great. However, I had frequent cross wind issues. When I acquired my 1100 doner bike, it had an airbox on it. The idea was forming. The concept is, You get all of the velocity, and voluum, from the "Plenum" side of the airbox, and the benefits of full airflow from the open K&N. Very smooth acceleration, pulls hard throughout the RPM range. I did still have some crosswind issues, but not as bad. I closed up the open frame area just under the side cover with a plastic panel. This solved any crosswind problems. One other issue I had with this setup. The flange, or lip, coming off the airbox, is not very long. The filter, on occasion, would fall off of the airbox. Didn't matter how tight I would get it. I ended up drilling a self tapper through the flange of the filter, into the lip of the airbox right on top. This solved that issue. Just some things I can pass along from my experience with it. I ran this setup for 5 or 6 years...

Obviously, I did NOT know what you meant.

Why be grammatically correct? For starters, so people KNOW what you are talking about. As Grimly pointed out, "Ur" was an ancient city in Mesopotamia. Asking about a filter on "ur" airbox implies that it is an airbox from, or made by, Ur. I have never heard of that brand.

Being grammatically correct also includes spelling. As already mentioned, "ur" is an ancient city. "u" tells me that the "y" and "o" keys on your keyboard are not working all the time and you might need a new keyboard. Or that you are just too lazy to type them in, hoping that we know what you mean. "lol" is just part of a word, who knows what other letters are missing? Yeah, they might be "texting" shortcuts, but dammit, we are not texting, we are using computers with full keyboards. Use all the letters.

It is somewhat reasonable to presume that anyone reading this forum and working on a bike is an adult, and probably has at least basic spelling, grammar and punctuation drilled into them from about the fourth grade on.

I would bet that nobody on this forum has met you in-person to see how you really talk and act. You might be the world's brightest person, but just don't care enough how you present yourself on an anonymous forum. Or you might have accidentally stumbled onto a motorcycle and a computer and have somehow managed to put some words together. We simply don't know, and can't tell anything except what we see on the page, and, quite frankly, that's not very impressive.

I hope you get the help you need, but I am not going to bother trying to decipher what I see on the screen.
