    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1000GT starter clutch on a 1000ET?

I know the part numbers are different, but where is the difference?
Will the 1000GT alternator and starter clutch fit on my 1000ET?
What about just the starter clutch by its self?
Are the sprockets different?

Nope. The 1000G starter clutch is the same as the 1100G clutch, its kind of a "parts bin" assortment of different stuff, as Blowerbike and I found out recently while trying to use a couple boxes of rotors, starter clutches and primary gears. To make it somewhat simple, the 1000/1100G uses pretty much the same rotor from a 1100E, but the clutch size of a 750, and the primary gear of an 1100E with the snout diameter of the 750 clutch..yadda yadda yadda.. ...AND... has its OWN bolt pattern... The 1000E simply wont work. What part exactly do you need? The starter clutch or something else? i might have some bits that might help you out, but I dont have a full assembly anymore. Rebuilding them is a possibility, but it's not a permanent fix, and it will likely fail rather quickly..
 
My starter clutch is toast everything else is ok.
Do you know, will an 1100ET clutch fit on the 1000ET alternator.

Oh you need the 1000E clutch??? If you look it up and see if it will work, I SHOULD have the full set up from a 78-79 1000E... You pay shipping to the other side of the world if it will work and you can have it my friend..

Yeah I need the 1000E starter clutch, but I can get an early GS(X)1100 starter clutch.
I cant find any info about the clutches themselves, they don't seem to have a separate part number:confused:

OK so a GS(X)1100 starter clutch does not fit on the GS1000.:( (anyone want to buy one)
The PCD and shaft sizes are different.
However a very helpful GSRer has sent me one from a smaller GS.
The PCD and shaft sizes are all the same and it will fit.
But the assembly is smaller.

The questions are:
Will it work?, I think so.
How long will it last? not sure
Will I get any benefit by having a reduced rotating mass on the crank?, hoping for a positive here.

I have a 1000G starter clutch on my 1000S. As long as you replace the complete unit as an assembly it will fit. As I recall the needle bearings have a greater OD on the 1000G part so the individual parts are different but the complete assembly interchanges.
 
Yes it will work.
Yes there may be some benefit from the lower rotating mass - not for motor response but the clutch itself should be less prone to trying to burst as your original has.
How long will it last ? Pass - but look at what you have invested in it Shane - all of $5.00

Just to be clear, the 1000G and 1000E starter clutch are the same size, the only difference is an internal difference to increase the needle bearing size.

:D Thanks mate.
$5 for that one, $25 for the GSX one and $100 for the swear jar!.
I have installed it, just need to make some gaskets and I will fire it up.
