DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1100>>>1000 frame

Just wondering if I could take the motor from a 82 GS1100E
abd drop it into the 80 GS1000S frame.
I love the 1100 motor, and love the setup I've done on the S.

Just curious 8)

Yup , you would need to fabricate new rear mount plates though.

Dink

I wrecked a "79" GS 1000 S with a GS 1100 engine on it apprx. 15 years ago. It's still sitting out in the shed, with the 1100 eng still on it. The motor mount plate under the shifter, like Dink said, will need to be fabricated. The petcock will hit the top of the carbs, so the rear of the fuel tank will need to be raised apprx. 1", and the right rear footpeg mount, the lower part of the loop, kept my Yosh pipe from fitting. I cut out the lower part of that loop & the pipe fit fine. My "S" was a "79" model, so I had to rewire for the electronic ign. on the 1100 eng., but yours is an "80" model, so the wireing should match right up

Thanks to al lfor your info.

Sounds like some minor mods and it will work.

Winter is coming this could be a project.

Or I sell the E and finish restoring the S..... tough call.

Keith I have a quick question for you... does your 1000 handle much better then the newer 1100 too?

Robinjo,
The S will run away from the E in corners.

But in all fairness, both have new Progrssive fork springs...rates in both bikes. New Progressive rears, the S has higher rated springs.
The S has a fork brace and steering damper, neither are on the E.
The E has drag bars, soon to be replaced with a superbike bend handlebar.
The S has an 1100 swingarm also

Also I've been riding the S for over 15 years, so I'm more comfortable with it. The E, I've done about 3K(miles) on it. I feel comfortable, but the S just handles better.
Nothing wrong with the E, just the S is like those old boots you have, it fits and I know what it will do.
Ask any of the New England GS riders :D :D :D

Does the "S" make you have to stop for pee-pee breaks less?

If so, then please do whatever nessecary to keep the "S" as your primary ride.

Ok dirt road boy :D :D :D :D

Actually I had no problems getting by you and I was 2 up :!: 8)
