I just put together an 1150. the cam sprockets have identical indexing as in 1,2/3 for timing.

My 1100 sprockets have one for intake and one for ex. if i line up the mounting holes with on of the 1150 cogs and the intake of the 1150 the marks are off by 1/2 a tooth??

any insite would be appreciated.

Have you tried the cams in the head yet to see how the cams end up indexed? You're probably going to need to use slotted sprockets to get timing where it needs to be. Either slot or have your sprockets slotted, or pick up a set from V&H or some other supplier.

I understand that slotted cogs are the best for timing and dialing but....

buddy doesn' t want to do that and just wanted some drop in cams. The G2 cams are such a cam. As above though. I have found a diff in the cam sprockets that were in the 1150 and stock 1100 cam sprockets.

The intake index is 1/2 a tooth out from the 1100 intake cog.

In other words. when I put the two intake cogs together face to face lined up by the cam mounting holes... the #3 index mark on the 1150 cog is 1/2 a tooth out from the 1100 cog.

So, I guess my question is to 1150 diehard dudes. Does the 1150 stock cam cog have two seperately indexed cogs like the 1100....OR.... are they interchangeable like the cogs on this one I am doing?

thanks.

For what its worth, I dug out all my old stock 1100/50 gears and they all are in sets. And yes, there is a difference of 1/2 a tooth if you line up the mounting holes.

Also, just wanted to add that everytime I put a motor together, even with all the same parts, I see the timing move and I end up resetting the cams.

I never looked this up before, but was the cam timing the same for a stock 1150 & the stock 1100???

Maybe the 1150 head is taller or shorter than the 1100 head so I'd guess you can't alternate cam sprockets between the two.

Mine all have that simple 1,2,3 instruction set stamped on them. 1 points towards exhaust, 2 points up. Count pins from 2 to 3. So 1&2 are stamped on the exhaust cam sproket and 3 is stamped on the intake. No difference from 1100 and 1150.

I have a few aftermarket ones that are a little different. I never look at the marks to tell the truth. I just use the slots on the sides of the camshafts to get them close and finish up with the dial. I did figure out a little trick not too long ago. The molly studs are just the right OD for my dial and the FBG head nuts are just long enough to thead a stud into the top. Very easy to get the dial setup. No more fancy dancy jig.....

here is what the 1150 cogs look like

I don't remember seeing any like that. It makes sence if they were trying to make them cheaper that they would use the same part.

I there no markings for EX and IN? Also when you stack the gears, are they the same? When you put the motor together, what did you read for centers?
