    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

13" or 14" Progressive 12 series

Hey all, this is my first post and consequently a first Thread as well.

I'm in the midst of Restoring/Slightly Modding a 78 GS750. My intentions for the bike will be a time period correct racebike while trying not to lose much of the original feel of the thing.

My question is do any of you know what length some of those old racebikes were running in the rear and or have photos of a build using 13" or 14" 12 series progressive rear shocks?

Any help will be much appreciated; thanks.
 
I'm installing the 14" 12 series on my 750, they are the stock length though the springs are rated at 105/175 I believe or 15% firmer then stock ones. As for the length on the old race bikes haven't a clue.

Hum, I swear when I measured the length of the shocks I have, which appear to be stock, were a 11 something from the Clevis to Eye. In hind sight maybe thats due to the fact they were still bolted up to the bike..... Anyway it appears I'll probably just roll with the 14's thanks for the advice.
 
The photos can be misleading because they shock mounts have been moved alot back in the day. If you look at Cooleys 1000 they moved both upper and lower mounts forward. Its more about the angle of the swingarm and spring rates than anything else.

I do believe the stock length for the GS750 is 13.25 inches. Please check your manual to be sure. Progressive says 13 inches.
