A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

bike revs up, will not idle down

carbs are stock and clean

new manifolds

please help

When did this start, and what had you done prior? A few things come to mind: A vacuum leak at the manifolds, the idle speed adjustment at the bottom of the carb bank, a sticking cable, a stuck choke.

Tim

wow that was fast thanks

bike sat for a couple of months - started doing this before - thats when I replaced the manifolds

not cable - carbs fully closed

not chokes - manual lever pushes them closed

I can set the idle speed fine

would carb synch effect ???

Hi Harry welcome to the forum.

Does your throttle move freely? or do you have to manually move it back?

Are you saying that with the carbs fully closed that it still doesn't idle down?

Also have you check to make sure your choke is actually closing? A week or loose cable there will leave the choke open although you have pushed then lever closed.

throttle has open and close cables - plus springs back closed with a good "pop"

chokes are not cable operated - one lever opens and closes all 4 at one time

This is almost certainly an air or mixture leak downstream of the throttle slides.

Have you checked all 4 carb sync port blanking screws are still there?
Have you checked all 4 carbs still have all their pilot air screws, and are they set correctly?
Do all 4 manifolds have the o-ring fitted correctly?
Are the carbs seated properly in the manifolds?

thanks - now I have some things to check

does anyone know the correct settings for ALL the screws

my manual says - do not touch - one of the screws ( on bottom ? ), so I have no idea what the setting is or what the screw does.

Screws on sides -- 1 1/4 turns out (factory setting with airbox and stock exhaust)

Screws on bottom -- 1 5/8 turns out APPROX. Factorys set but generally 1 5/8 will work OK as a default. Yellow paint should indicate correct setting.
