If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello,
I have a 1978 GS1000 with charging problems and just wondered if anyone on the site had a similar problem and could offer some advice please.

When I put a multimeter across the battery with the bike running the reading is 13v at 5000 rpm.
After testing the voltage regulator according to the Haynes manual, the problem pointed towards a faulty voltage regulator, because when the voltage regulator was removed from the circuit, the multimeter reading was 16.2v.

I got a second hand voltage regulator from a breakers and after it was fitted the results were the same leading me to believe it was also faulty.

Then I got a new Electrex RR10 to replace the regulator and rectifier thinking this would fix the problem.
However with the RR10 installed the charging voltage at the battery is still 13v.
I have checked the resistance readings on the stator, they are all 0.8 Ohms

The battery is not at fault as it holds the 13v no problem.

I am my wits end as nothing seems logical about this!
Can anyone please come up with any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Dan.

Hi Dan! Welcome to the GSR!!!

You did a great job finding this site, so please don't stop your searching yet. Click the Search feature, go to Advanced Search, and click Titles Only. Next type "charging" into the search field and hit enter or search. Charging system problems are some of the most common of all so you are sort of reinventing the wheel here by posting this thread. Also search "stator papers" and get busy reading.

Welcome again and good luck.:)
