1978 GS1000: what's this thing in my cylinder head?

Hi all,

I pulled my carbs to do a full rebuild, but I had some plastic parts breaking off the carb boots.
To check if anything fell into the intake I borrowed an inspection camera to look into it.

There is something which looks like a metal clip (?) on the picture above the valve. Doesn't look like it belongs there...

Anybody have an idea what it could be?

No idea what it is but should not be there can you not fish it out with a stiffish wire which a blob of grease on the end whilst using the camera?

never saw a spark pug on that side of a valve.

The vale is open and the camera is looking through the crack..seeing the end of the plug.

I immediately thought spark plug when I saw the first picture. SEcond pic is just a closed valve.

Chuck, you nailed it. I found it hard to maneuver the camera in there, and I never thought about how it looked from the inside...

I might take a better picture tomorrow, with the spark plug removed (playing with the camera before I gotta return it). Maybe that gives a better idea on the condition of the valves.
