DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1978 gs550e bigger car question

anyone know any other carbs that will swap from the vm22s to a bigger size? my buddie has a set of vm28s from his z1 but the spacing for the boots to the head is way off. or is there any other boots that would work also to swap bigger carbs? i have been searching google but cant find any info. i want bigger carbs because im building my bike for drag racing and after i do pistons cams and little other engine work i wanna not be maxed out with the vm22s. thank you.

I've put Z1 carbs on a Z650 - and the 650 carbs on a big CB400....Which required respacing. It's possible to remount them on a 5mm - or 3/16in for you yanks - plate and redo the fuel joiners and throttle link rod. But it's a lot of work and if you haven't done anything like that before, I wouldn't start here.
Back in the day Performance Bike mag in the UK put carbs from I think a GS750 on to a big-bored 550. i don't think they ever got it set up properly.

Do it properly and use aftermarket carbs like 29mm smoothbores - or a late type like Keihin CR's or Mikuni RS's. You will then be able to get alternative needles - which you won't for the Z1 carbs. You will actually stand a chance of getting it to run properly.

You can use the VM24's off a Z650 which are the same inlet stub size and will fit the Suzuki inlet rubbers.
If wanting to use the VM26/28's the actual carb spacing is the same and if you are handy just make an adaptor plate to take the correct mounts..
