A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 1978 gs750 that needs engine work. I am boring it out to an 850 and know that I need to rejet. Does anyone have any idea of what jet sizes I need to go with after the mod is done? Any information would be helpful.

I have a 77 and it is not bored out, but run velocity stacks and open header. I went from stock (97 ?) to 122's. Initially, I would think you would keep close to stock unless you do some air/exhaust mods with the carbs, cams and/or exhaust.

You can call Dynojet and get the DJ series jets for a pretty good price. I have a post somewhere else on here with the actual prices.

Let us know how it turns out.

Phil

I'ff you are just going from 750 to 850 then you shouldn't need to re-jet, as both bikes have roughly the same jet sizes.

I don't mean to be an ass, but why don't you just get a 1000? They're just bored-out 750s from factory. I can see why you wouldn't just get a stock 850 as they are only cruiser style and maybe you want the standard style. But if you want the same style and all, with more power, just trade up to a 1000. It's probably a heck of a lot less work.

My two cents. Best of luck!

I have actually just graduated from college and am still searching for a job. I have very little money and got the bike and a second engine for $450. It is a lot cheaper for me to just play with what I have and both engines are out of spec so they need to be rebuilt. I am not really looking for more power or anything just trying to get myself a good reliable bike to ride to and from work. Thanks for the input from everyone.

Yes, I can sympathize with that. I'm one year out and I just got 90% laid off.

I still don't know if a bore kit is really the best thing for you but you didn't ask, did ya?

Best of luck, welcome to the site!

Isnt the 1000 a bit heavier then the 750 and the the 1000 a bit longer too? I with the extra torque and hp from the overbore that 750 should be quite a bit faster off the blocks then a standard 750 plus still be able to handle relatively quick. Plus depending on the 850 conversion, you can up the compression ratio too so there are definate advantages to just overboring an engine. Plus as he said..it can be cheaper and fun!
