A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 1978 GS750E. I recently had a complete rebuild done on the engine, and transmission, I also had new coil packs put on it. Carbs have been rebuilt also. I'm thinking about out electronic ignition on it. My current problem is I have a miss in it. It is popping back through the exhaust. (Sitting on the bike it is the right side) I can't seem to get it figured out. Any suggestions. I have 700 miles on the bike since rebuild. Thanks for any help

How are your compression numbers? Valve clearance? Is the exhaust sealed with new gaskets? Timing? New o-rings on the intake boots engine side? Points new and flat with proper clearance?

Compression is good, valve clearance is good, all new gaskets and o-rings. I am inclined to think that elecronic ignition is probably the way to go. Points are a pain. I've got way too much time and $$ in this bike to have it miss like this. I do a lot of the work myself but the engine rebuild was done at a shop that specialises in restoration of old bikes.

The points are very easy to set. There's several threads already in the tech section on how to do so......look for one typed up by Earlfor.

Also, if you are sure your points are good (I'd invest in a new set, they're about $8 each) and properly adjusted, you could also have bad condensor(s). You can ride thousands of miles without having to check/re-adjust the points.

Already put new points and condensors on it when the engine was rebuilt 700 miles ago. I really wanted to keep this bike as original as possible but I think I'll just do away with the points and go w/ electronic ignition. I've had this bike 4 years now and it seems like I'm forever replacing the points and condensors.
