1980 gs1000e good shocks rear???????

hi guys ,, i,m in australia,,, now i,m looking at fiddling with the rear shocks,,, at the present i have 4 way adjustable shocks that are about 8 years old when i purchased them new and i,ve got an alloy gsx1100 swing arm on ... i,d like to look at a reasonable shock that not going to kill me in COSTS,,, any suggestions would be much appreciated.. thankyou once again regards david

Sorry, I can't help you with shipping costs but here's some information for you.

Most of these brands are available in 'eye to eye' and 'eye to clevis' configurations, in different lengths for twin shock GS models. The options are arranged in order of price, low to high.

1. $65-$90 Emgo/MDI: Found all over ebay, and at about every vendor on the internet. General consensus of users seems to be that they are ok quality, but very stiffly sprung. 2. $120 Redwing: Evidently no longer made, they are still available at www.loudfastugly.com (and omarsdtr.com). I've not been able to find anyone who's actually used them, but they appear to be of halfway decent quality.

3. $210-$230 Progressive 12 Series: Lots of information here and all over the web about them. Most people seem happy with them, several different spring weights available. Available at most online retailers. www.denniskirk.com is a vendor I have had great luck with over the years.

4. $218-$270 Hagon Type A: Seem very similar to Progressive 12 series as far as owner satisfaction, quality of construction, and price. Available in the USA at www.davequinnmotorcycles.com

5. $320-$400+ Ikon 76 Series: Generally pretty highly regarded, lots of options available. From what I've read on the internet, they do seem to be more highly regarded than Progressive. Can be found at http://www.ikonsuspensionusa.com/servlet/StoreFront

6. $419-$589 Works Performance Steel Tracker: Very highly regarded, lots of positive reviews around the internet of Works Performance in general. Customer service (including rebuilding any brand of shock) is very highly rated. More info at http://www.worksperformance.com/html/home.html

There are other options available that can be more expensive, including offerings from Works, Ikon, Ohlins. White Brothers, once a powerhouse in the motorcycle industry, has ceased operations.

Being in Australia I would think that IKON is your best bet as that's where they come from....

They bought all the designs etc off Koni.

Have you considered yss suspensions in Adelaide?
I purchased my fork valve kits from them a year ago, and have heard some good things about them.

I did try hagon shocks. They did not suit me and my riding style at all

Agreed - Ikon and YSS. You can buy direct. Yss start from 299 I think and go up from there. Can't remember what the Ikons start at. They both do fork springs as well.

Haven't got the websites in front of me but a quick search will find them - they also both advertise and most of our local bike mags.

Hagon shocks can also be bought direct from the importer too while I think of it!

Cath had new YSS shocks on her last bike (BMW R65) and once set up for her they were outstanding. Cost was just over $600 for the pair and she picked them up from a guy who is at near Raymond Terrace in the Hunter Valley, he specialises in off road stuff but can get road shocks on request.

just fitted a set of ikon shocks to my Gs1000s the differance is well worth the price
handling and comfort is fantastic even two up its good.

I have Konis on my 1000ET.
I have heard good things about YSS but not tried them myself.
The Konis/Ikons are rebuildable not too sure about the YSSs but I would guess they are...
