  • Hi Monk,

Are you still selling your bracket for the GS1000 double pot brake upgrade mod? I've just gotten the rest of the items and wonder if your creation is still available, or what you would suggest to fabricate the piece. Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Hi there, I'm reaching out to you regarding the progressive front fork springs for my '79 GS850G. My email is sarathchandars@gmail.com and mobile is 425 931 2980. Thanks so much!

Dan, thanks for that info, can I purchase from you the parts to do the conversion on my Buffalo. And would you accept a money order?
Hi hey I bought your Salty monk front brake upgrade kit a few years ago and also bout the concourse calipers and cbr600f3 (I think f3) disc's for my '79 gs1000e (twin disc fronts). Of course I started drilling out the rotor mount bolts and then laid the dice on the wheel only to find the holes I drilled are way off line with the threaded holes in the wheel. I also found the rotor center hole is bigger than the stock rotor so drilling the rotor bolt holes concentric and true to distance is the only way to center the rotor on the wheel. Using only the rotor mounting bolts seems to keep the rotor centered seems kind of sloppy. The stock wheel comes with a light steel disc with mounting bolt holes which can be flipped and pushed in to take up the slop but DOES YOUR UPGRADE DISCARD OF THIS DISC AND ONLY USE YOUR THICK SPACER WHICH HAS THE CBR600 BILT HOLES THERE AS A TEMPLATE TO DRILL THE NEW MOUNTING HOLES?? Google gives around I saw guys also use the cbr900 disc's and one guy said some of the crb600 rotors have mounting holes that only need to be drilled out and others need new holes drilled with your template

I searched but couldn't find your thread for the brake upgrade.. can you help me find that and point me to the best rotors that might have center holes to match the wheel or at least have mounting holes that only need to be opened up.. I'm worried if the rotor isn't centered on the wheel the wheel balance will be off.

Lastly since I ready drilled out holes in one rotor, to drill new holes seems I need to center your template then mark and drill new holes. Any recommendations for doing that?

    Thanks,
    GaryS

I think you’ve got an answer to this already but if not private message me.
The spacer acts as a drilling template but now you’ve already drilled out the holes you won’t be able to use it that way. I would get a new set of rotors and start again.
The F4 rotors are the ones that only needs holes enlarging. F3 you use the spacer to get the correct spacing on an additional set of 6 holes.

The other piece you are taking about I can only assume is the speedo drive dust shield. You may need to cut 3/16” off of that and yes you do need to use it but for the health of your Speedo drive, nothing to do with the brakes.

All the info and lots of pictures etc are in the thread.

The link to the thread is in the signature of any of my posts on the forum…

    Hi Dan,
I'm looking into the purchase of one of your front brake upgrade kits for my 1978 GS1000 EC.
Please let me know if you have any kits left.
    Thanks, Steve
Augh, that is why you used the SV650 calipers. I out 82 forks with the anti dive on them but when and I noticed the 82 fork spacing was wider. The triple trees have a different stop setup that would take some mods to use.
Could you give me a link to your thread about your '83 GS750ES conversion? That sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. ;)

Just look back through my post history, that’s probably the easiest way to find it. :)
    Hiya Dan,

I was trying to remember what industry/bussnoess/market you work with, in effort to determine what you were eluding to.

Your first link didnt work. So am just letting you know.

Oh, yah, POP display and equipment. Now I remember that after seeing your 2nd link.

I suppose you are a busy guy with work and kids and all.

Good afternoon. My name is JR and I just joined the forum. I bought a GS750sd new, back in 1983. Just finished a complete restoration of the bike. What I'm looking for is brake upgrade. From everything I hear, Salty_Monk is the man to speak to. Not sure if its allowed, but you can reach me at modernmatrix@gmail.com or on here. Want to upgrade my calipers and maybe even the rotors but keeping the stock forks. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Salty,
i recently got a 82 GS550L and was wondering if your front brake caliper bracket would work on that bike as i find the front brake not good enough
Saw the pics of the 450 build in "other projects" I'm assuming the panniers are ammo cans? If so, which size are they? Have been considering those for awhile now.

    Salty,

I am interested in buying a set of those brake caliper brackets. Are you still making them?

    Thanks,

Salty: I'm trying to get a 'Proper' answer for this question for over a week now.

    I have a 1982 GS750E 16 valve TSCC motor with CDI/inductive ignition.

Will the Dyna S electronic ignition kit with coils (DS3-2) work on this bike?

Will any Dyna S kit work? I'm told it needs to have the mechanical advancer(magnets behind the timing case) and if it does, it'll work.

I'm trying to pull the trigger on purchasing a Dyna ignition kit so I can then add the DRL-400 as a launch and high-rev limiting device.

Any input would be highly appreciated.
