    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1980 GS1000G Idle Adjustment

New to the board and was wondering if somone could point me in the right direction on locating the Idle Adjustment on this bike.

I did a search and didn't come up with anything.

lots of great info.

any help is appreciated.

Hi Mr. njload,

You'll find the main idle screw there between the #2 and #3 carbs, pointing towards the rear of the bike.

Wow good stuff.

I am the original owner and she definately needs some TLC. Is there any place I can find after market brake calipers? I'm going to be in the marked if I can find something cheap enough. I definately want to get her back up and running. I will try to post some pic's in the future cuz she still looks pretty good. Got a Windjammer SS fairing on the front and luggage rack with sissy bar on the back. Getting excited just knowing I am in good hands here.

Hi,

Chances are good that you can use the original calipers. Just clean them up and replace all the rubber with a rebuild kit, OEM is always best. Depending on condition you may need new brake pistons too.

I already rebuilt them once back in 88 and replaced the pistons, don't remember if the calipers had some pitting going on or not but rebuilding would definatel be an option again as the back dosen't have much stopping power.
 
To idle up do ya turn the screw clockwise? Haven't tried yet and can't remember.

If you are on the right side of the bike, turn the knob towards the engine (clockwise) to increase throttle, same rule, righty tighty, lefty loosy :D
