All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I can't see the vent tube though. I guess I'm going to have to start pulling it apart...

tear down of carbs

tear down of carbs

Well, I pulled the rack off. I took pics along the way so that I can try and diagnose any thing that may be a contributing factor. I'll try and post pictures because I already see things I don't understand but don't look right.

If it will run with the choke on and stops with the choke off your pilot jets are PLUGGED. Possibly the passages as well. if that mechanic did not remove ALL the jets and clean them and the passages he did not "clean" your carbs.

Go through the carb rebuild ENTIRELY. Don't skip a thing, and make sure all of your jets and needles match. Don't just soak the carbs. Soak them for at least 24 hrs, then blow air through all the passages to clear them. Get good quality o-rings from the o-ring guy here. Remove the boots also, and replace the o-rings, even if you're convinced they're not leaking. Don't mess with the ebay stuff. If you do all this properly, then the bike still doesn't run right, at least you'll know what it ISN'T. If you skip even one step, then the carbs will always be in question.

Thanks, I was always skeptical that he did a thorough job. It makes sense that fuel is not passing all the way through. I have pictures but I don't know how to get them up. I was hoping to have an external link like dropbox with a folder but I don't know how to allow access to it...

I won't say the name of the shop but after numerous complaints, including a loose wheel after a tire change, I never went back.

#2 is not as bad as #1 and #3&#4 are clean?

Those are not pictures of the inside of the carbs, just the throats.
Your head has been ported.
