I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1980 gs250 air intake removal - cleaning idle circuit

Howdy everyone. I just got my first motorcycle! The guy before me had the carbs cleaned, but the thing doesn’t idle correctly. My mechanic says that there’s particulates from the tank that have clogged up the carb again. His remedy is to get a fuel filter before I run it again and then clear the carbs. To do that I’m going to take the air filter off, run it as high rev as I can get it, then put my hand over the intake. That’ll make a steering enough vacuum to suck all the nasty shit out and it won’t be in my carb anymore! After that I plan on getting cone filters to throw on there instead of the box. I’ll post updates once I get to do this but if you guys have any advice on good ways to pull the intake or anything else let me know!

Picture of my bike included as tax.

Also, I’m looking into balancing the carbs once it can idle correctly and everything. If a build thread would be more reasonable I wouldn’t be opposed to that.

So, your solution to clean out the carbs is to make sure that you get all the junk from the gas tank into every orifice?

Seriously, though. That's no way to clean the carbs. See the Carb cleaning tutorials and Factory Service Manuals on BikeCliff's Website, and the Top 10 Newbie Mistakes Thread, both linked in my signature - please.

Welcome to the forum.

Hey rich, thanks for the response

I feel like putting a filter on the gas line would keep the junk out of every orifice.. slapping my hand over the intake will suck the stuff in the carb out of it. Thanks for the resources, I’ll definitely check them out today after work.

Edit: here’s a link to what I’m talking about doing https://www.binderplanet.com/forums...-out-the-carb-to-clean-out-the-engine.113305/
seems like it has risks if there’s loads of buildup, but the carbs on this were just cleaned so I doubt it’s very much.

I appreciate the link to the Scout site. Learned to drive in a 1976 Scout Traveller. While that method may be the go-to on a 345 V8 w/ a 2-barrel carb, the passages in a motorcycle carburetor are very small, and even tiny bits of detritus in the various passages and jets can and do cause running problems. I'm not saying don't do it. It's your bike, do as you like. I'm just saying, don't expect great things.

I see what you’re saying. You make a good point. Ill manage my expectations, hopefully it works out!
