DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

From what i can see, the tank looks like it'll fit the 550 (has similar mounting style in the front, would need to make adapter for rear)

has anybody run a 450 tank on a 550?

3 hours of search yielded 0 results for specifics.

Usually the tanks are very specific to models. Sometimes a different year can be used if it is in the same series, such as 81 - 83 in the case of the 650G, but crossing over from the twins to the fours is almost never possible without serious modifications,

The 850/1000/1100 2 valve bikes are somewhat compatible as long as you stay with the G submodel. The L model cruisers are a totally different idea.

The 750/1000/1100 16 valve bikes are pretty close and the body parts are a bit interchangeable.

You might have better luck with twin engine gas tanks from another company, such as Yamaha or Honda, but in any case some mods are in order. A few of the Cafe builders are more knowledgeable than I on this subject.

I'm running a GS650E tank on my GS450. The front mounts are the same, the rubber base cushion on the frame (at the rear of the tank) is in the right spot, but the rear tank mounts are totally different. Also the 650 tank is longer, so the petcock fouls on the 450 frame rear downtubes.

So, in other words, you should only need to fab a different rear mount (and hope the petcock clears your engine)

But hey, that's custom building for you :D

someone else asked this same question a couple months back well i guess it is almost a year now. I will look for it and let you know.
