If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Im having a hard time finding out what the inner diameter is for my airfilters. I used the search function and came up with a lot of references to pods and such but no specs on size!!! Im purchasing a few upgrades for the GS from Bikebandit.com and I'm hoping someone on here can help.

I got the bike as a trade and it was missing a few things...
turn signals
brake light
gas cap
fuel petcock

Any suggestions on where to score those? Bike bandit wants a fortune for the petcock and cap.

Other than that its pretty clean and with a little love it should be sweet!

Leave the stock airbox unless you want to completely rejet your carbs. Cheap pods are no "upgrade".

That was the plan. I did my research before hand and read up on the carbs. Got the o-rings, dip etc. and wanted to do a few changes while i had the bike apart. Everything was pretty clear with the exception of the carb intake diameter. Doesnt seems to be listed anywhere

I just read the carb rebuild article in your signature. So the 450 has 34mm carb intake?

Very nice writeup by the way....

Cheap Cycle parts is the best source that I have found for old GS bikes. They carry every imaginable oem part with the exception of tanks and seats. Unlike a lot of US companies. They don't need to order from Japan as everything they sell is on stock. Only took me a week to receive my intake boot o rings and air filter. Everyone wanted nearly $20 bucks for the oem air filter and would have to order from Japan. Taking anywhere up to a month to receive. Paid $10 bucks and received it in 5 days from Cheap Cycle Parts.

You need 48 mm pods for your 450. I recently bought them and changed my mind about using them as I didn't want to sacrifice fuel mileage as a result of rejetting the carbs to get the bike to run proper. But, unless you don't mind spending the extra money and time to have the carbs rejetted. To me it's not worth it. Not worth the time, money and hassle to get the bike to run right. The carbs on these bikes are very sensitive to the relationship of running the stock air box. It can be done, but the cons far out weigh the pros. As you will be removing and taking apart the carbs at least a few times to dial in the jetting.

Thank you Pearljam. I actually started the tear down tonight so i took a second and measured the carbs. I was looking for a quick answer so i could order the parts right away but thank you for the advice/specs anyways!

Im actually looking forward to re-jetting the carbs. This bike is more of the sunny day toy so fuel consumption isnt much of a concern and I was anticipating having to tune. Im looking forward to installing the "pods" as well as a few other things. The labor intensive part is going to be fabricating a whole new seat and rear fairing. Should be straight forward but time consuming.
