I have searched and cant find the answer in the forum....

Does anyone know what size pods fit on a 1980 gs750?
I just got the bike and dropped it right off at a friend of a friend to work on the carbs and the guy went on vacation. I want to order the pods now so when he gets back they can just go on the bike rather than wait another 2 weeks and order when he gets back.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know what size pods, but if you're ditching the stock airbox, you will need a few more items for your friend to be surprised with.

Hi Mr. zero,

Be sure to get quality pod filters, not the EMGO junk that is sold for cheap on Ebay. Get K&N or APE filters. They are a common size, measure you carb intakes, or just click here. You will also need to re-jet the carbs to compensate for the increased air flow. A Dynojet kit takes most of the guesswork out of the process.

Let me share some GS lovin'. :D

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

what else will I need?

If you have the stock air box save yourself a lot of work and use that. Pods are going to require re-jetting. They look cool and make it easy to get the carbs off, but if I had it to do over again I would have left it stock. The good ones are close to $180.00 if I remember correctly.

Hi,

I don't recall anyone sharing their experiences specifically with the UNI pod filters. But the process is the same. You must install larger jets to compensate for the increased air flow. By doing plug chops and reading the plugs you can tell what the air/fuel mixture is at each throttle opening or carb circuit.

I, too, am a fan of the stock airbox. But that's because I'm a lazy old fuddy-duddy.

Pods are pods are pods as far as the way your bike will run as long as its jetted for free flowing air.
My 850 runs the same no matter if I have cheap 30 dollar ebay filters, K&N's or no filters at all. I know this for fact as I have done it.

If you are getting pods then buy the good ones K&N, but put some serious thought into it before you start cause you could be opening Pandoras box with this one. I have been trouble shooting mine for at least 1/2 a year now...

Oh the joy of PODS... your 750 have a 4 into 1 or the stock exhaust? I would have loved to go pods on my 750 when I replaced my stock rusted out pipes but Jetting was not something I was willing to mess with so I kept the stock airbox for sanity sake. Only plus I like about the pods is you get easier access to your battery which the stock airbox sits its big butt on *oh the times i had a battery screw come loose on the road and cursed that little box to high heaven....

Best way to search this site is google site:www.thegsresources.com "your request" google works a little better at searching =)

Any pics of this beauty:D

I can speak about pods first hand. My bike had dodgy throw away ones (emgo's?) when I bought it and soon after my purchase I replaced them with K&N's.

I had massive problems with jetting, previous owner stuck what seemed to be a stage 3 jet kit in and the NIGHTMARE still haunts me!!!

I am actually awaiting an airbox for my bike as I type this message and I REALLY cant wait to remove the pods!!!!

The nightmares of riding in wet weather, the nightmares of keeping them K&N's oiled when under the harsh Aussie sun, the list goes on and on and on and.... IMHO KEEP YOUR AIRBOX and just get a K&N for that!

That's my 2 cents worth!

I have decided that I am going the pod route. I just purchased the K&Ns off of a member here, I am currently running 4 into 2 pipes with very little baffling, and I just picked up a Dynojet jet kit and 4 full carb rebuild kits.
I am dropping this all off at the mechanic and seeing where it goes from there. Getting one S&S carb working on my old shovelhead was so much easier than this sync 4 carbs bull****.

What kinda rebuild kits? All ya need are the orings. I wouldnt let anyone else do it either. Cost ya a pretty dime and ya wont know for sure whats been done.

Yeah, a Harley is soooo much easier to work on, or so I've heard. Never had to touch mine.;)

Good luck!

I needed the float needle in a few of them in addition to the orings. I dont want to hold this project up any more for just needing a gasket or 2 so I bought the full rebuild kits. The mechanic that is doing the work has has a few gs750's and has rebuilt the carbs on all of them. I usually do my own work but I just don't have the time to eff with the carbs right now...and to be very honest, I am slightly afraid to get 4 carbs running and in sync...

There is nothing to be afraid of, there is an awesome guide to doing the VM's available from HERE :)

They are so simple my 16yo cousin recently did a set out for his school project. Now I have found a good carby cleaner Im going to get him to strip and dip them though as they are still quite dirty looking and he has not got the engine ready as yet.
