    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1980 GS850G oil leak after headgasket repair

I have an oil leak coming from the bottom gasket area, below the exhaust in the center of the cylinder. There is oil coming from a molded section of the jug, I have about 40 miles on the bike since the headgasket, and all top end gaskets have been replaced, even put new rings in it when it was down. Bike runs great, no smoke, but leaks oil especially when you get the rpms up. The leak is enough to get oil on my pants. Any ideas would be appreciated, also when I tore the bike down and replaced the gaskets the kit came with rubber oring-washers, which I did not find during the tear down, could these be the cause if someone had the engine apart before? Where do they go? My manual doesn't show them, but bike did leak oil from front of engine prior to teardown also. Thanks for the help in advance.

If you didn't use oem gaskets that could be the problem. Check parts diagrham on Suzuki parts place, it should show if you need the rings. If you have to take it apart again, pretty sure you'll have to have new gaskets. I'm sure you torgued all bolts to spec., might check just to make sure all where they should be. terrylee
 
Those O rings could be all or part of the problem- they go on your head bolts.
Two If I remember - the front forward two- grease them before installing.
Re torque your bolts in proper sequence in 30% increments. Then re torque again at 1K miles.
Be careful not to over torque the small outside bolts.

Hi Mr. cliff75v,

For critical areas like base gasket, head gasket, etc, it's best to use the OEM gaskets. I just ordered a complete Suzuki factory gasket kit to freshen up the top end of my engine. Yes, there are O-rings in there. Around oil channels like in the picture below and around the cam chain tunnel, etc.

The aftermarket gaskets, Cometic and Vesrah, have been getting a lot of bad reviews lately. That's why I went with the more expensive factory parts. They just work.

Same leak before and after? Maybe it's not from any of the gaskets you replaced. Oil from the cam chain tensioner, cam cover and tachometer drive can take sneaky paths. Can you show is a picture of the leak, or give a more detailed description of what you see?
