Hello,
I've been lurking on this forum for the past few days and this is my first post after having purchased my first motorcycle yesterday, an '81 650E. I picked it up for $400 on Craigslist. It needs some minor work, but I'm looking forward to tackling it (with perhaps a little help from you kind folks!).
Unfortunately it seems the 650E is something of a rarity, so information is proving scarce online.
My question today is about the ignition. I know '81 was right in the middle of a transition period for ignition technologies. From what I gather there are basically three types: "points", electronic "transistorized", and CDI. Is this correct, and can anyone tell me exactly what kind of ignition my bike has? Also a quick rundown of the implications of whichever ignition variety I have would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!!
