DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just an up date to the purchase of my 1981 GS750
Well I went and picked it up yesterday!! And as always wasn't as pretty as the pictures!
Here is the good:
Low Miles 4004
Clean Tank
Newer Battery
Gauges look good
Tank will clean up nice
Looks like an old man had it ( as it should the bike was part of an estate sale he died in 2016 at 73 )
All the lights and turns work

The Bad:
All 3 calipers will need to be cleaned up they are very sticky and do not retract
Air box is missing completely Intake portion and chrome sides are there just no box
Has a K& N Type filter on it
Carbs will need a rebuild ( I knew that he said it ran but would not idle good and the #1 carb leaked )
It has not been plated since 1991
Was stored the last few years in an unheated farm hose basement so it has some surface rust

The worst things:
The seat is kinda ugly?? It is growing on me but ?????
It is a recover but it looks like an L seat but it does latch in the back and does not have a lock in the rear of the seat that I can tell
Can anyone tell me what seat it is? I would like to buy a cover

Some dumb guy ( me ) was in such a hurry to get it home I did not check the R/H side cover and yes its gone now
Tried to start it today just for grins seems to have lots of compression ( I will check it later )
Fires on spray ( pretty easy with no airbox in the way! )

So that's what I know so far and info on the seat or leads to an airbox and stock filter along with a side cover would be appreciated!!

Thanks
Kevin

Seat's not too bad, minus the backrest. Bummer about the side cover. Anyway to retrace your route home? Maybe not feasible to do. Good luck! My favorite body style GS 750 and 1100s.

"info on the seat or leads to an airbox and stock filter along with a side cover would be appreciated".......

One word: Ebay baby! That's where I bought most of the stuff to restore my 850 and my Honda CB900 Custom. Airboxes are plentiful and cheap, but you will probably have to be patient to find one that's nice.

Thanks
I have a side cover coming g from e bay! The seat I will find as we both know I have lots of time until spring. The airbox should be easy to find with all the people bobbing bikes.
I am planning on starting on this bike after I get backfromFlorida in March.
I want to do another couple days, work on the 82 550L project and have,a,1978 Kawasaki KL 250 tore apart in my work area now.
I wish I could get mine as shiney as your 850! She is a beauty along with your 900.
Do you know about the vintage ride up my way to the Haggerty Center?

Finished and have been riding the GS750E

big improvement on the seat. Overall, I'd say you have a beautiful bike there. Enjoy it.

you also helped the looks by replacing the grips. good job.
