A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello all! Brand new to the forum. First post. Just getting into motorcycles and trying to gain more knowledge. Picked up the bike listed in the subject heading dirt cheap. It is in really good shape, around 9000 miles on it. However I bought it somewhat disassembled and missing parts. My first goal is to get it together enough to get it running. I am not of the traditionalist mindset when it comes to this rebuild, having said that I hope I'm not in the wrong place with this forum. I am leaning toward opening up the air and exhaust on this thing.....cutting the exhaust and pod filters. It's my impression through reading different forums that the carbs need to be rejected if this is done. So I guess my question is 2 parts. 1, what is the best jet size for what I want to do. 2, does doing this cause premature engine wear, valve problems, etc? A little about myself as related to experience.....not a mechanic but mechanically inclined, I've rebuilt the top ends of engines in autos I've had, with the help of a manual. Also, years of experience in metal fabrication.

If you get pod filters get the Dynojet kit. Set it and forget it easy. I have 2 of these bikes. Pic in my sig. As for exhaust, I'll be the first (and certainly not the last) to tell you don't cut it. Not because I'm a purist (far from it) but because cut exhausts sound obnoxious and serve only to pi$$ people off. Get a nice exhaust designed for your bike such as the Delkevic or Vance and Hines. The Delkevic is stainless steel and technically for the E model 750 but should bolt right up with a little fabbing of the rear mount. This is the route I will be going when I get the money for the exhaust. The Dynojet kit will have you covere for jetting with exhaust mods so just run the biggest jet they send in the kit and you should be fine. You'll see in my sig pic as well I upgraded to 340mm RFY shocks in the rear as well as progressive fork springs and 7.5w oil. Dunlop 404 tires. Bike handles fantastically and runs smooth as butter. We also did the obligatory SH-775 regulator and upgraded stator from Electrosport.

Good luck with your rebuild.

First off, don't chop up the mufflers. The noise is irresponsible and annoying for everyone within earshot of the bike.

The carb rebuild tutorial and Newbie Mistakes thread linked in my signature may help you rehab the bike.

BTW, I've got family in your neck of the world. It's a small world sometimes.
