A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1981 GS1100 - Electrical Box mounted Near Battery?

Steve

GS Whisperer
I have a 1981 GS1100 and today a wire shorted and melted the wire about 16 inches and it burned a diode out of an electrical box mounted near the battery. What is the box called? What is the part number? Where can I order one online and how much is the normal price used?

If you can answer one or more of these questions I would be grateful.

Steve

some more clues would help, there are several electrical boxes in close proximity to the battery.
regulator rectifier (aluminum with fins on it)
turnsignal self cancel box
turnsignal relay (flasher)
ignitor box

a picture would be very helpfull
or a description og how many wires it has as well as where it is in relation to the battery. (IE= on left side as you sit on bike with X number of wires coming from it)

I don't have access to the part at this moment, but out of the ones you listed I know its not the regulator rectifier or turnsignal relay. I am pretty sure this bike isn't equipped with a signal self cancel box so I would guess its probably the ignitor box, but I am unsure.

If you pull off the right hand sidecover (sitting on the bike) mounted onto the battery compartment by two philips screws is a black metal box, 4 or 5 wires coming from the top. There is some numbers and letters on the box but most of it was worn off to a point where it's unreadable. I could see and make out 12V.

I did some reading, searching and more reading (yes, Google is my friend) and I found out the part is indeed the "Ignitor Unit". I found an image that looks just like it with a visible part number of "32900 45110".

Does anyone have a way of validating that the 1981 GS1100E Ignitor Unit part number is or isn't "32900 45110".

Does anyone have a used Ignitor? Are they hard to come by? How much will one cost new/used?

Thanx again..

Lists the ignitor for $370. Unfortunately, they have gone to displaying everything using their own part numbers, so I cant verify that 32900-45110 is the suzuki number for it.

If the ignitor box is faulty, it would be less money to replace the ingition system with a Dyna ignition instead of a stock ignitor box.
