A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hmmm... now come on Dale I thought you were gonna shoot me a magic bullet! :p

I went circular mirrors due to the circular headlight, figured rectangular would be out of place... although the indicators are rectangular...

They're cheap crappy Chinese or Taiwanese ones so I'm sure they'll need replacing at some point anyway

Pete, what was the original shape of the mirrors for your model?

Hey Greg, the ones that were on it when I got it were black round ones, but going by the fiche the stock ones were rectangular...

Oh, and this is where the carry rack is at after John did me a favour and welded it up for me:

It should be cured enough for me to mount on Sunday if I get the time.

And here's the plug, seal, and a new stainless allen head bolt to replace the one with the rounded off head... and of course some anti sieze:

Where did you find that plug? I have looked everywhere for one, ended up making my own.

Never mind, I used part number off your picture to find it.:D

Haha cool, well done!

ChicagoRob figured that out a while back and I filed the info away 'til I got my Acewell then I did the same.

Don't forget the oil seal which is on the same part of the fiche, for an '83 GS1100E I think. 26451-45000.

Also used on a bunch of other models...

Well, aside from getting some final flashy pic's when she's had a big bath, this afternoon's work officially makes her finished.

That's it, no more to do except ride, service, and tune :D

You can see it's a little off-centre in the third pic, but it's close enough for me and should do what it needs to do.

Looking good Pete, you've put heaps of hard work into the old girl and its good to see her finally finished.

There is a gsx750 here you can work on now.. i'll mail it up in envelope part by part.

Pete,
When a machine looks that good, water spots on top of your tail light are just unacceptable. Would you please grab the chamois and shoot another pic. Seriously, you did a great job.
Niels

Awsome Pete, congratulations with a fantastic build. The luggage rack looks great and the colour matches in very well.

Thanks mate :)

Cheers Greg! Pretty happy with it overall. Even got to use it to strap the wet weather gear to on the way home today, nice to have the option.

Sheeesh 2311 replies (2312 after this one) and 39,253 views and he's still not happy

I still haven't got good enough "complete" photos to plaster all over the forum yet (never posted in the custom GS or twin photos thread) so these will have to make do for Mr Impatient in the meantime :p

Thanks mate! The filth of a week's worth of riding to work in the rain is cleverly disguised in those photos... ;)

Nah its not........ lol

looking good though Pete, how do you find the heat from the exhaust on your leg?

I was wondering the same thing. It must get pretty warm on left side! I'm glad to see a heat deflector attached- which must help a lot, at least to prevent leg burns...

Seriously, I don't notice the pipe at all while riding. It sits at the bottom of my calf just above my ankle and between the Draggin Jeans or cargoes and my boots I don't even notice it, not even on the GSR runs where we've been out for several hundred km's.

If I pull up at the lights and put my leg down I sometimes brush it with my thigh and yeah it feels warm but moving my leg out 1/2 an inch sorts that out.

That ceramic coating is awesome...

Pete thats a beautiful bike! I love what you've done with her. One question: is that seat stock? Not the actual seat portion but the rear cowl? Or did you fab that up yourself?

I love how that looks.
