    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well the seat's off to be covered. Sounds like they'll do a good job and it seems like they want to put seams in sensible places and so forth, so fingers crossed it comes back looking good!

They did say it wasn't a bad effort on shaping at all, so I'm pretty happy with that!

I then got some supplies:



And then had to change the tyre on the Festiva... how do you pick two screws up like that?



And I got a call this avo that my tyres have arrived :D

And then tonight I got the wheels off. Got the sump up on the trolley jack but I put a pair of axle stands under the fork legs just to be safe as last time the trolley jack had started to sag a bit over night. The axle stands should catch it if it does it again and allow me time to get in there and jack it up again.

I started trying to remove the wheel bearings... yeah that's gonna be an adventure! I may see if the guys can remove them on Saturday...
 
Wheel bearings are not that hard to remove, they are just a bit of a process and a bit of cursing. I bought the same bearings from the same freemason group you got yours. I think we've talked bout this already LoL.....

Rego makes me cringe too. Im hoping i just pass with nothing said. :O

Yeah I started on them too late last night so I wasn't keen on hammering them too much... I think they started moving though... and yep, we did talk about this already ;)

Thanks mate, I think if you keep your head down and only answer whatever they ask I think you'll be right :cool:

Yeah that's the plan, just a little awkward battering at 10pm ;)

I'm not sure if they need them in to do the wheel balance though (I suspect so) which is why I'm thinking if they can remove them, then they can do that after the balance... the old ones aren't shot, this is more about not needing to do it later and doing it while the wheels are off...
 
Well, the next real "scrambler" style item arrived today:



Should do the job once I figure out the mounting:



I had to order those from the UK because they want stupid prices for them here so it was much more cost effective just to be patient for a couple of weeks...

And then all I really got done was mounting up the new brake disc:



I haven't folded the tabs up yet just in case it needs to come off tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, I called him today and he reckons he should be able to get all the bearings out for $20 - 30... sweet!
 
hey pete, you can get them here from vintage car forums, i got a set for the kingswood but sold them and i got them for free!

I looked ages ago and found a pair for something like $35, but I couldn't remember where and this time the cheapest I found were about $80 plus postage, whereas these ones were about $28 shipped so I went with that.
 
New rubber is on!



I was concerned they'd be vastly different treads and would look funny, but they complement each other ok:



I started getting the new bearings in tonight and I did the freezer method which meant the front left bearing went in nice and easy, but unfortunately I started real late again so the right bearing is only half in as it was 10pm and I really had to stop hammering... I'll finish it off tomorrow and get both wheels on.

Hopefully I can get the chain on tomorrow too as I need the house mate to stand on the rear brake so I can torque the front sprocket nut up properly.

Seeing as i couldn't hammer any more, I at least go the mesh headlight guard mounted:



I will tie the guard onto the clips though as I've read on the 'net that guards have been lost given they just clip on.

And you are right the front and rear tread patterns look great together.
I always liked those mesh guards. I used to see them on foreign (British) cars here way back in the '70s. Then they almost disapeared... but they seem to be making a comeback now, especially on bikes and Jeeps.

Cheers mate! And yes they definitely are making something of a comeback.

All the big dual sports seem to run them also and from what I can find so far they're 100% completely legal too as long as they don't interefere with the spread of light so I don't have to take it off for the saftey certificate or anything :D

Now to get those wheels and the chain on today... that will be awesome if I can get that done...

Oh, and I spoke to the guy yesterday about a dyno run as he has one there, and it's only $100 to get an AFR run done, so I might go back and get one done once I've done some tuning with plug chops.
 
I do like the new rubber, good buy, and that headlight guard is a nice touch as well, I would never have thought of it.
She really is starting to really take on her new personality now, good work mate.

Cheers Stan, and yeah that headlight guard is just right I think, definitely "right" for the whole scrambler thing...

You missed 'em Daniel :p

But all good, they're both Pirelli's. Scorpion Trail front, Scorpion MT90A/T rear... the Trail is definitely more road biased (95/5 I think) than the MT90 (70/30) but if I have to have less road bias on one I'd rather it be the rear... at least I got dual sports that fit :D
 
Man she's gettin' so close!!!!!

I must apologies though for the lack of pic's. The low battery light is on the camera so I'm conserving battery life until I can get some more tomorrow.

Anyway, I finished getting the wheel bearings in this morning and that went so much quicker now that I could do it during the daylight hours and not have to worry about the noise.

So, wheels went back on which meant I could finally get the new chain on as well. I didn't realise though that there's a tool required to put the connecting link on properly so it's just sitting there for the moment. I have something ordered that should be being delivered this week and the same mob sell the chain tool so I'll call them tomorrow and get it added to the order.

At least with the chain on like that I was able to get the house mate to stand on the rear brake so I could get the countershaft sprocket nut torqued up as well.

Naturally I haven't even tried to adjust the chain or check the rear wheel alignment yet.



It may be wishful thinking but I do believe the front guard looks at least a little better now with the new rubber on:



After I took that last pic I got the new brake pads in and torqued up the caliper axle bolts.

Then I put the gear change lever on, and yeah that footpeg bracket and the pivot bolt are ugly as... if I get some time I really should pull them off again and give them a good cut on the sisal wheel:



I filled her up with oil again tonight too...
