A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fantastic!
In all honesty, I never bashed your front fender. You know the old "If you can't say something nice..." but I never imagined it would look that good finished. Your forward vision skills are top notch.

That is quite the bike there.Still can't fathom having it around that long and not doing anything.Made up for it now.Crossed fingers and toes here.

Thanks Pete. Looking really good and those pipes really seem to fit now

Thanks Scott! Definitely happy with how she's turned out, and yeah I love them pipes ;)

Haha mate I did! Ha! I wouldn't call it forward vision... more... let's stick this on coz I can't find anything better and see how it looks...

The paintwork on it is still a bit dodgy but I can cope with that at least for the moment seeing as I should hopefully be able to ride real soon :D

Thanks Greg!

The first few years I coped with other distractions and I could at least go and start it every now and then. It was always "I can get this on the road again soon when I have the cash" but never had the cash... then it started deteriorating and I didn't have the time either... then it got to that point where I thought I'd best do it properly...

That's where I started wondering why I kept getting grumpy all the time, and I realised exactly why... won't let that happen again!

Once she's done I don't intend to be bike-less for any period of time again :D

Pete,
I must say my friend. This build is outstanding. Just wanted to let you know that I constantly refer back to ur old threads to double check im doing certain things 'right'. lol.

I hope it starts and runs perfect first time :)

Good work my friend. Hoping to see it on the road soon!

Thanks mate! I don't have the skills or experience to contribute a lot back on here, so I just hope that sharing my mistakes and successes may help someone else, so if they're helping you then mission accomplished :D

Stay tuned for the update in a few minutes ;)

Very nice and jealous.........

Thanks mate! I'm sure your 850 will come along nicely once you get those parts sorted, that's the painful bit!

So when is the roadworthy test???????
Come, come, come, times a wasting...

Fingers crossed for Tuesday, but depends on whether it's ok with the current jetting or not, so I'll talk to him tomorrow and see what he says...

Ok... ducked out this morning and got some supplies for some things including those split pins I was missing:

Popped the split pins on:

Then I put some fuel in the tank and started her up so I could check the Dynatek ignition timing, charging system, and clutch and gear shifts...

Everything was good, timing spot on, charging system doing the right thing, clutch disengages, and I could shift all the way up to 6th and back. Awesome!

The only negative is that she's still really lean, so I think I'll go up another 2 pilot sizes. I had the mixture screws out as far as 4.5 turns and it was still lean and not wanting to come back down to idle. At least it's not a hanging idle which means my intake leaks are fixed!

Then I have her a bath and a bit of a quick polish and took some pic's with the mate's you-beaut camera (used it for the video as well) and of course it was cloudy again this avo:

And then I got the house mate to stand in the drive way while I geared up...

He said he could hear me most of the way 'round the block and it sounded good :D

I'm a bit wobbly there coz that's the first time I've been on a bike in nearly 10 years and man am I stoked!!!! :dancing:

I know it was all of a 2 minute ride, but hey it was a ride!

I'm going to call the mobile safety certificate guy tomorrow and see if the idle issue will affect the safety certificate and if there's any issue with the battery being exposed like it is.

Providing those two things are ok I'll book him in for Tuesday and cross my fingers it passes...

I gave it all a good look tonight to see if I could see any oil leaks or what not, and I had a scare which turned out to be excess chain lube, so no dramas there.

It looks like the oil around the valve cover has burnt off and it's not leaking, so it must just need to absorb some oil and then it's all good. Even though the paint is a bit darker near the seal, it's not oily or damp at all. I also checked the front and rear of the cylinder and all was good except I didn't polish the cam end covers...

I still need to do something with the tail piece. The seat has settled a bit now I've ridden it and while there's no gap like there was, I'd like this to look a little neater:

Definitely not urgent, will just keep it in the back of my mind...

Now to start organising some more pilot jets and probably some bigger mains too...

That looked and sounded great!.Was a bit wobbly after the time I had not ridden in 5 or 6 years.

My first thought when I watched the first video was "Jeezus! Turn man, TURN! I know you said you are wobbley but you're swinging way too wide, get back in your own lane!!!"
I am such a ding-dong.

Damn son!
Thats a lovley sounding bike. Stoked that you got to ride it finally!!

Good luck with the safety certificate. I just went through ur entire Jetting thread. Got me wondering if I'll need to increase my jets too..hmm...
Will see how it goes after the carb rebuild.

WTG Pete!!!

Fantastic sounding twin!
All of you efforts were most definitely worth it!

Beautiful work and a great way to bring this to an awesome conclusion.......

How's that saying go, once you learn to ride a bike you never forget....

Here's to many more miles on your bike...

Cheers

About dang time Pete. Congratulations and I sure wish you'd posted the part of the video where you were standing on the roof after all the jumping around I'm sure you did. So is the grin still on the face?

Beautiful work and a great way to bring this to an awesome conclusion.......

"Conclusion?"
I beg to differ.
I am believing that this is only the new beginning to many up-coming
years of smiles and great times on two wheels. ;)

Daniel
