1981 GS750E Carb linakge how-to

Can anyone point me to a diagram or some pictures of how the throttle and choke cables are hooked up to a set of stock carbs for this bike? It's a set of Mikuni BS32s. I thought I had pictures of the cables before I took it apart but I can't make out those details.

I also didn't put the vent tubes on before I put the carbs in. Will I have to take them out again to get those installed?

Thanks for any help. It's my first time at re-installing carbs.

In reverse order:

No, you probably don't have to take the carbs out to put the vent tubes on, but you will find it easier to put the throttle cable in if you remove the carbs (at least partially).

The 'choke' cable attaches to the linkage on the front of carb #2, and is anchored to the forked bracket just above the corner of #2 carb. (Remember that the carbs are numbered from left to right. #1 is under your clutch hand, #4 is under your throttle hand.) The throttle cable goes to the pulley that is attached to the left side of #3 carb. I have found it easier to have the carbs sort of in place, but not in the boots yet, open the throttle with your fingers and hold it open while you thread the end of the cable into the side of the pulley. When the end is in place, release the throttle, slide the cable into the forked bracket, put the carbs into the boots. Once the carbs are in the boots, you can adjust the cable with the locknuts, according to the manual.

I went ahead and pulled the carbs out again and put on the vent tubes. I hope they are OK curved where I put them.

Your advice about taking them partially out to hook up the throttle was spot on. Thanks. I still need to get a proper choke cable (got whammied by another wrong part) and I left the boot clamps off until I get the cable, in case I have to pull them out again. I'll adjust the throttle cable accordingly then.

I'm so close to having it ready to run I can almost hear the header growling.

The last time I pulled my carbs I "corrected" the location of the vent tubes to lay over the top of the airbox (when I first put it back together they were going down). But it actually made matters worse until I bent them back behind the side covers. Before the ends were visible between the side covers and the seat. You MUST keep them out of turbulence, or power will drop at the most inopportune times (like when passing a truck).

That's interesting because I believe mine were angled along the frame towards the front of the bike. Hmmm. I'll have to check my pictures. But now that you've said that, I do remember a bunch of tubes running under the seat on my old bike.

I checked the picts and yes, the vent tubes are mounted facing forward. I couldn't find a picture of them in the service manual. Anyone know which is right?
