A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Are they interchangeable? I can get a full set very cheap, all rebuilt etc and im just curious if they would work, to me it looks like it has a different choke mechanism setup, but idk

Some parts are the same, but a lot are different.

Please give some clue what you are trying to do, as "1981 GS850G on 1983" really does not make much sense.

Must be a "New Jersey thing" or something.

"Carbs lop, ..." What the heck is a "lop"?

If you are asking whether the '81 carbs will work on your '83, the answer is "yes".
They will work much better if you change the "choke" mechanism to the new style.

More evidence of confusion is in your signature.
Are you telling us that your '83 850G has 9 1/2 million miles???

See, all these texting "shortcuts" really take a LOT more keystrokes to explain than they save in the first place.

Your signature says "9500K mi." When used in numbers like that, the "K" means "thousand",
so you have "9500 thousand miles", or 9 1/2 million.

Stev, can you splain why the 83 choke mechanism works better than the 81? I no they moved the choke control to the left hand controls o nthe bars, but that doesn't seem like it wouldn't work with the older style linkage o nthe carbs. Is hte problem wit hthe cable routing?

Well, not really saying that one system is better than the other (other than personal preferences), but he'll have to modify one end or the other to get it to work at all. Since he already has the handy control on the left handgrip and the matching hardware on the carbs he wants to remove, it would at least be easier if he installs the '83 "choke" mechanism on the '81 carbs.

By the way, although I agree with the content of the video, I had a hard time listening to it. Almost turned it off about 20 seconds in.
