A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I've got a chance to snag a 1982 1100E head for my 1983 project. I figured that with a spare I can locate some research into porting one of these. I've never done a Suzuki head before, but I wonder if the basics remain the same. Port wall sides and roof, avoid the floor and most work in the bowl area?

The biggest question I have is that for each year 1982 and 1983 Suzuki lists 2 heads. The first is part number 11100-49250 HEAD,CYLINDER MODEL Z and the other is 11100-49260 HEAD,CYLINDER MODEL D. Are these due to different emission/chamber configurations or something else? But they carry the same number for both years, so I should be able to play with the 1982 head and not worry if it goes belly up?

Are there any Suzuki specific porting tips or tricks? This is just going to be a street bike, but while she's apart and there are a few mods that can help her along, I'm all for that. I really don't want to go down the big bore Wiseco route nor crazy camming - just a mild street port job. Any suggestions?

I would contact RapidRay, Blowerbike, GregB or KrisV. on this forum and see what they have to say.

I do know there's some subtle differences in the engine, like the crank, '83 is welded, perhaps some late '82's, the bolt pattern changes for the head/valve cover in '82 or late '82 because it was prone to leaks. The air filter box I believe is different, air filter is different, the '83's have a slightly flattend side on the air filter, and the carbs are jetted different. As far as the heads, don't know, could just be the paint color.

Do all the 1100 heads have a tach drive?

The 82 1000 & 83 1100 Katanas also had the aluminum cap & no tach drive gear as they used electronic tachs too. ACTUALLY, none of the 16 valve 1100 heads have tach drives. The drive gear is in the valve cover. The 82 & 83 heads are identical, as Terry stated above, with the exception of color. If you want to know about the porting send me your head. I do LOTS of them. Ray.
