    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1982 GS 450 No air adjust screw?

I recently picked up this 1982 GS 450 on the cheap. I'm tuning/balancing the carbs, and for the life of me i can't find an air adjust screw, is it possible that it is factory sealed? I have a .pdf maintenance manual covering years 1977-1983, but The diagrams are dark.
 
Yes, by law it was covered at the factory, but it can and should be removed. Check out the CV carb rebuild PDF on BassCliff's web site. It shows exactly where it is located, at the front top of the carb under a small cap. The cap can be drilled and removed with a small screw. Just don't go too deep or you will hit the air screw itself. I'll post a link here momentarily.

Look at attached pic (part #37) or go to website shown if you can't expand pic! www.alpha-sports.com look for parts diagram.

Mine has no such cap on the front, but a very similar one on the side of the carb, I'm guessing the carbs are slightly different? I have a GS 450t, i'm going to try to link to a photo I took of it

That little disk with the little hole in it, just to the left of your clamp screw, is it.

Most of the GS carbs have them on the top, the twins have them on the sides. :o

I just drilled mine out friday to do a complete dip and ring replacement. A 5/32 bit works perfectly on that cap, the sheet metal screw of approp. Size will take it right out. My adjustment screws were backed out 2 1/2 turns by the factory. remember to check that before you pull them by the way.
 
Pulled the caps, adjusted, synced the carbs, purrs like a kitten now. Thanks again.
