It's just the outer most clutch plate. I want to know what caused this before I just throw another clutch in there.

I took the basket out and looked around.

when I grab the basket in it's place, should there be any play?

when I grab opposite sides of the basket, it rocks left and right, just a little. so little that you can't see it, but you can feel it. is that right?

do you think I need to replace the basket bearing?

would this kind of play break a clutch plate?

maybe the noise I heard was just the clutch plate and it was faulty.

Picked up my body work yesterday, and dropped off the seat to have it re-covered/shaped.

Of course this picture does not do the paint job justice.
I'm getting closer...

I'm out of Control!!!

I'm out of Control!!!

I attempted to start touching up the rest of the frame tonight. One thing led to another, and I have a bare frame now. since I was 90% of the way to taking the bike down to the frame, I guess I'm not going to wait until next winter to powder coat the frame.

I'm so jeleous! You actually have side panels without the posts snapped off???!!! Every post on my sidepanels are snapped. The PO, held the panels in place with zip ties (so friggin' "frakenbike" looking, I hate those stupid things!)!

There's only one tab left on each of the side panels. If you look closely at the picture about 15 replies back, you can see drill holes for the makeshift attachment bolt.
Also the tabs on the tail section have been re-glassed into place. I'm actually pretty impressed with the fiberglass job someone did to save the body mounting tabs. it feels really strong.

I am thinking "Zeus" fittings on my GS....... instead of the $hitty posts to mount the side panels. Problem is the Zeus fittings need a large round drilled recieving hole.

got my seat back.

got my seat back.

Matt finished my seat.

since I have no frame, I had to mock it up in the basement.

From what I can see in the photos it looks like it turned out really nice. How do you feel about it? Did it turn out like you asked for it to? I'm anxious to see it on the bike.

You know, it's Christmas, it's the weekend, you probably have monday off, I think you should be able to have that bike put together, finished and photos taken by monday afternoon. Don't-cha think? .............

Come on man! I want to see this thing finished!........... You've got nothing else to do this weekend, do you?.......

I'm anxious to see this thing together, it's really going to look nice!

All kidding aside, I would remove the cellophane from those freshly painted parts. That paint will be gassing for at least 30 days from the time it was finished. If those solvents are not allowed to dissapate and are held next to the finish, it can cause the finish to haze.

Don't cover it or wax it for at least 30 days.

I was wondering about putting the shrink wrap around the bodywork.

I will take it off right now. I was just thinking that I want to protect the bodywork as much as possible. I was thinking about those cars that come with the plastic covers now to protect the paint, but those are probably more than a week old before they get the plastic. I guess blankets and sheets will have to do. :D

Believe me, if I had the frame and wheels right now, I'd be staying up all night for the next two days putting this bike together. I won't get those items back from the powder coater for another 10 days or so. I just added the frame to the order on friday. It's the baking and blasting the frame that takes so long. The Powder coating is only a couple days.

I painted my engine tonight before our xmas dinner, but I left my camera at the party. it looks way better than I thought it would.

Pictures tomorrow if I have the time.(and get my camera back)

I see you found that 1200F ceramic paint. That stuff works awesome, it's what I've been using!

I hope it holds up for you man. Let us know what kind of durability you get from that paint on the engine.

I went to Napa to find the silver color you described, but this is the only silverish color they had. It's almost like "spray on" chrome. Is this the same color you used?

Thanks for the tip! I pretty much followed your procedure on painting the engine. (except I took the engine out) I really didn't want to take the engine out, but it was so much easier to mask it off, and get all the tight spots. It just happened.

I bought some of the same stuff in clear for my polished side covers. They seem to be loosing their lusture just sitting on the shelf. It rains too much here to be cleaning and polishing those pieces all the time.

Thats the same stuff I used, DH1606. A perfect silver color for an engine. It didn'r even stink up my basement when I first fired my engine. I wish I could say the same for the Rusteolum stove paint!!! AGGGGHHHHH ! that stuff STINKS when heated for the first time

I replaced the clutch last night.
I don't know why I didn't think of making these earlier.

The top needle is the stock one. If you want to know why a DynoJet kit is better than just putting in different sized stock jets, here's the reason: most of the time when you ride, you are on the needle jetting (1/4 to 3/4 throttle). The art of the DJ kit (and most other jet kits) is in the taper of the needle.

Thanks for that note on jet kits. It makes perfect sense but I never would have thought of it.

Hey guys, I had safety wire holding my side panels to the bike as well. If you're into perfection, Temeculamotorsports.com has brand new OEM side panels, AND all the hardware & rubber grommets for your GS. I bought a set, and they were spendy, but they're perfect too.

It's a bit late to be telling you that though, huh Kevin? Would've been nice BEFORE the painting was done. Still, the bodywork looks great!
