Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Lookin' good Jake! Hope you find your leak out soon so you can get her dialed in nicely...

Thanks! I don't really know where to go from here. Hopefully my other thread will get me some places to start.

Switching the old picture up eh Pete?:p

The engine covers are nice and shiny, the black on the exhaust helps tone it down I like it

Not sure how far in the sync screw is.... you sure you are adjusting the right screw? Its the one in the middle with the 8mm lock nut.

Yeah, I know because I had to replace it. PO busted off one of the sides of it, I'm guessing by not loosening the lock nut or something.

My only guess is that I have a leaky intake boot or the oring didn't sit right.

I'm headed out to the garage now...

There is only one sync adjustment screw. Its in between the carbs right below the choke rod

Yeah, I know. I'm saying he busted one half of the slots on the screw off. You know how it is cut through the center to form the slot for the screw driver?

One half of that was busted off so it had to be turned with a pair of pliers. 8mm lock not and a little bitty screw. Pain in the ace to get to.

looking good. You might want to switch those hose clamps on the header wrap though. I had mine originally like that but I used a thin gage wire and wrapped it a frw times around where the hose clamps are. Then paint over it. Just my suggestion.

All I can suggest Jake is to go through all those boots, O rings, and clamps and make sure everything rubber is supple and sealed right...

And yeah, figured it was time for a slightly more up to date avatar and signature photo ;)

I really need some good final shots though, just haven't had the time or if I have had the time she's been filthy... in fact she's in desperate need of a bath at the moment, hate having her all disgusting and filthy...

Yeah I know. I just dread taking off the carbs for the 100th time.

I think I realized why they don't put a reverse gear on these bikes: You spend so much time going backwards in the project :p

Two general questions:

Is there a correct orientation of the carb boots? (upside down vs. right side up?)

Any reason not to polish the float bowls? Figured if I take em down might as well give em a bit of shine

Ah I see what you are saying now... While you have the carbs off you can use a dremel to cut the slot in that screw.

Polish up those float bowls and the carb caps while you are at it..

Already got a new one last week with the exhaust gaskets.

Doing some studying now before I pull off the carbs. Uggg I hate doing that but I won't whine because its not an engine overhaul.

Why did you switch to wire?

you can get these instead, they are thin, less noticeable on the pipes

get it at who ever stocks the wrap....

I used them and they are nice, I did use the larger clamp you did as well, but only where the can and header met, since it was a larger area I wanted the wrap held good and tight, that and I broke the thin stainless strap...LOL, but I might go and get another one....

Well, carbs are back on.

Rechecked the float heights, reseated the intake orings, snugged down the boots/clamps.

Got a little polishing done on the float bowls. I'll throw some pics up later.

Really irritated because while my tank was sitting on the sawhorse it was full enough that some gas leaked out onto the tank. It sat there the whole time I was working so it completely ate away some of the paint.

I was planning on repainting everything anyways, but its a GD eyesore now.

Going out for a quick spin.

Thanks for the help guys.

Fingers crossed it's all sorted...

Bugger on the paint but if fuel eats it then it really wasn't too good to start with... proper 2K should take that no sweat...

Well I haven't thrown the gauges on since I redid everything but it seems to be running well.

Went for about 30 mile ride this morning (see pics in "ride today?" thread).

Seemed to handle just fine.

I've noticed that if I want to get any higher than the 60 mph range I really have to wait until higher rpms to upshift. Guess that is a joy of riding a 300:rolleyes:

Got a little polishing done on the bowls last week. Nothing to write home about:

Hit the five hundo mark since I got her:

Going to ride her all week before I move up north and have to leave her behind til I get a place of my own. :(

You really want Tim Tom to do what I'm going to attempt, but it might give you an idea of what I'm thinking... or it might not... will have something back soon I hope unless I give it away as a bad joke...

Ok, I feel like it's missing something at the rear, but I think you get the idea... a lower profile seat with the two tone theme, and you need to keep some chrome around as every classy old chevy still has a reasonable amount of chrome...

Mate that is IT!!!!! Awesome!!!!

I had come up with something else but it looked like a toy.

That is really sharp, but I agree it may need something at the rear.

Thanks!

No worries mate! Sometimes I actually get some reasonable ideas... less often I can put them into viewable form... glad it worked this time :)

Still not sure on the rear though... I tried putting a white top just on the passenger seat but that was feral... where's Tim when we need him?
