DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello, I have a 1982GS 450L. The bike worked great forever then suddenly I lost all power while riding one day. After I got the bike home I noticed my headlight was blown. The bike would only fire on the left side. I took the gas tank off and the right ignition coil was melted a little. I assumed there was a power surge. I found a used ignition coil and put it on. I checked all the wiring to make sure nothing got fried. Still only fired on one side. I switched ignition coils to make sure the one I got wasn't bad. still only ran on the left. I have a new battery and new plugs. The right side just doesn't fire or spark. I think its the cdi box but dont want to buy a new one since i am not sure. I was wondering if anyone knew a way to test it.

Sounds like your Regulator/Rectifier unit fried or (more likely) the ground corroded and then the charging system voltage spiked, taking out the ignitor and coil. Bummer about that. Some maintenance may have averted disaster but oh well. I believe the factory Suzuki service manual has tests for the ignitor, but they are not definitive. You should check charging system voltage too and fix what ails there as well.

had similar issue happen on sons 450 , we went with dyna system replacement- includes coils and new icu. and have to add a
new rectifier as well.

But, on the other hand, it looks like a TCI ignitor and not a cdi. Probably this seller-site has labelled it as a "CDI".
