I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1982 gs550ex red paint colour?

Isetta

Forum Newbie
Hi, I am in UK. I have a 1982 GS550EX in Metallic Red. This is eight valve model. It is similar to the older GS550E bikes except the EX had a bit of an update with rectangular instead of circular indicators and painted metal front mudguard instead of chrome (mudguard matches tank). My front mudguard (fender in USA) is absolutely rotten, when I got the bike in 1987 it was already splitting where rust had got between the main mudguard and the reinforcement between the fork legs. So i need to replace it. Does anyone know the name of the paint colour? Also, does anyone know from experience the name of a car paint used in the UK that is a good match. As it is just the mudguard I am doing a very slight variation could be acceptable. Seems very hard to find anything about this model of GS550. It seems vary rare and seemed like a last ditch update of the GS550E before the 16 valve monoshock version took over. There is also a GS550EZ which is like the EX but with fuel gauge and antidive forks. That was available in Metallic Red also but I don't know if it was the same metallic red as mine. Although I have had mine 35 years I have never seen another red GS550EX. I did see one red GS550EZ about 30 years ago. I think there may have been an almost identical 650 version in USA. Help on paint colour please

The name of the color, and the paint code, is useless information, because there aren't any paint manufacturers with formulas for these old colors. Your best bet is to take a painted part to an automotive paint supply store and ask them to match the color. They will have a color computer to get the color match close, then a skilled mixer dude that knows how to fine tune the color match will take over from there. Every decent auto paint store provides services like this.

BTW, that 650 color seems to be called "Candy Fancy Maroon"...https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/suzuki/motorcycle/1981/gs650e/optional
