A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1982 GS650E Ignition/Electrical Woes

Hey yall. First time posting here but been lurking for a while now.

Long story short is i got ahold of a 1982 GS650E that hasnt been started since 92 and has been stored outside, part of the time online it's side. (But only 6k miles lol)

ive gotten almost everything working add moving freely. She turns over smoothly, but I'm getting no spark. I got new coils and reg/rec, but the reg/rec that showed up, where the original had three white with blue, green and orange stripes, the new one just has three yellow wires. Curious if anyone has any input on this. I got it off amazon (I know) but just wanted to throw some cheap parts at until I get it atleaat started then work from there.

Also, the ignition and start switch was all smashed up so I'm trying to just wire switches in for the time being but can't get it to crank by connecting the start wires, only by putting power directly to the starter..

Update: forget about the ignition switch and starter button. Had my wires switched and figured it out. Still no power to the coils tho. Getting pulsing lights on a test light hooked up to the reg/rec tho, so it seems like I'm getting signal to there at least.

Send the R/R back, while the return window is open. Then purchase a Shindengen SH775, and follow guidelines on how to install it. PM me if necessary, but a simple search will turn up more infomation that you will care to read.

That said, an R/R won't cause poor spark. You have an issue with the wiring, or maybe the ignitor. Many people unfamiliar with GS bikes assume the coils are suspect, but in truth, coils rarely fail, and get changes for more often than necessary.
