    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I think they figured by the time someone bought an 1100, they would already know how to ride and a gear indicator would just be a distraction.
 
Little before and after action. O-rings are in for carbs, so that is next on the list. Mocked up the airbox I got from Ed and installed the chrome covers on it.
I need to replace the chain, thinking I would rather use a masterlink rather than pull the swing arm since I have an endless chain.
Pulled off brake drum too last night and I need to order some new brake shoes as well.

Motor the day I received it from Chef.



After some elbow grease.....:)

Actually the 81 and 82 have different valve covers. I was thinking the same as you when I first purchased the motor, but upon arrival I noticed the 81 lacks a couple bolts near the cam chain tunnel.
I would assume the earlier design must have leaked easier.
 
In the pictures, it looks like your 1100 motor is an 80/81, the give away is the hourglass breather cover. Those use the 20 bolt valve cover. Is your 750 valve cover a 24 bolt?

Yes the 1100 is an 81. My 750 is an 82 and has 24 bolts.
 
The 81 750 has a 20 bolt valve cover but has a rectangular breather cover, instead of the hourglass cover.

Got a good bit of work done over the last few days. The weather has been warm for this time of the year in North Idaho and had me wishing I had this project buttoned up so I can ride in it!!!
We were pushing Mid 70's over the weekend and it was 82 yesterday when I headed home from work! I did polish up the front lawn with the help of my wife. Back is looking good too, but needs a lot of work....damn dogs!!!

Anywho...I have 99% of the wiring in order, just need to connect main ground from engine to battery....attach some some zip ties and that is it. Installed lower engine mounts. Hooked up a voltmeter. Have 2 of the 4 carbs dipped with new orings.
So really all that is left is to put in new oil filter, add oil, finish and install carbs (sync after first run), put on chain, and install my new brake shoes....and of course tank, side cover etc when it is ready to roll.

She is back on the road.... A few hiccups but 1100T is a reality. The 750 exhaust is pushed forward a bit due to the 1100 being a bit larger lol. I had to modify the rear exhaust mounting brackets. Slight different in the recesed parts of the heat shields but I can hash out later. One issue really at this point. Carbs dipped, orings etc. Vacuum synced. Idle moves and one pipe is awful gas fumy? I have all mix screws at 2.5 turns out. Floats at 22.4 mm. Starts right up and cruises good. Going to DMV now so no highway test. So not sure what is going on. Might start a thread on it.
 
She's a beauty!

Definitely keep us updated on the issues regarding the gas fumes.

My small fume issue has become a smokey issue. It appears that the #4 cylinder is not doing its job. A soon as you get on the throttle is smokes pretty bad. I thought it was a fuel issue and replaced all the carb diaphragms since one had a hole. That did not fix the issue. Compression test is next once I source the proper tool. Pretty bummed right now.
 
Sorry to hear that Derek. It's all you can do is anticipate when she will be ready to ride! It will be fantastic once this issue is sorted.

Thanks Ed. The compression test will point me in the right direction. If it is in fact burning oil I suspect that it is a valve stem seal. I can see oil sitting on top of the piston!
