A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 1983 gs 750 es with cdi problems. Will the dynatech ignition work on my bike to eliminate the cdi? I have a hard time justifying the cost for a new cdi from the dealer.

No, the dyna needs the mechanical ignition advancer- your 83 doesn't have it. Maybe the advancer setup from the 82 or earlier could fit on your bike and then the dyna would work for you. Buying used ignitors is risky- new ones are ridiculous .

I have an known good ignitor i'll let you have for the cost to ship it, if you want it. PM me an address...

Man, i have to say that it one really well done bike. I wouldn't be shy to ride that

I am going to give this a try on my 86 gs 550l

To save you alot of reading, this was on 27, the last page

I used the diagram straight off the first page of this topic. I found two 4-prong DR100-matched aftermarket modules for $22 on ebay (used), two new aftermarket C849 coils for $26, a set of spark plug wires at Autozone for $17, and about $15 worth of connectors, heat sink compound from Radio Shack, etc.

I did not use the starter circuit with the resistors and diodes for a couple of reasons. This bike has always started well, and I wanted to see if the spark plug gap I used would be a factor in cold starts first. So far no problem at all starting.

Wow, the O.P. only stayed on here for about an hour (long enough to read only the first reply) and hasn't been back since. No pm of course, he has no idea what he missed. If he comes back the offer still stands.

No PM ? At least to thank you for your very generous offer? Strange world. Hopefully he wasn't just embarrased ! But maybe he's the ambitious type and wants to cobble something together.
