    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

While pulling the GS out of winter storage, I have noticed while she is warming up, that the intake boots are, almost like breathing,like flexing...
It seems like I can see every bit of the idle in the boots.
Is this normal, am I seeing too much?????
I don't see any cracks or weakening in the boots.
Any ideas or is this normal :?: :?: :?:

There is only one thing that can cause those boots to contract. Your engine need more air than it is getting. The only way that can happen is if air cant get through your air filter. Soooooooooooooooooo......................
your airfilter is dirty.

Interesting...I think I noticed something similar with mine...and I know my filters are dirty.
 
All my old GS's have done this at idle. It's a lot of vacuum on the intake stroke.
 
If the choke is on, of course you will suck on the boots a bit. THe choke restricts the airflow. At higher engine speeds the boots won't pulse.
 
These carbs don't actually have a choke, they have an enrichener that is mistakenly called a choke. It works by adding fuel, not restricting air flow. The 1100 eng, every rpm, is trying to suck 550 cc of air & fuel thru the tiny openings, under the slides, in the carbs, as the slides are barely open at idle. This pulsating of the intake boots is normal, but don't ask me why you don't see it all the time.
 
Not bats in the belfry.......maybe mice in the air box?


Notorious for building nests in the air box.
 
The carbs jiggle around on my 81 1100E too. My friend has an outdoor kept 83 and all of the rubber, including the boots, is as hard as a rock. That's not the case on my brothers 82 400E as it has the bolt on boots which are a lot tougher.
