    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1983 GS1100E Red touch up paint color

Has anyone found a automotive touch up paint color very close to the 1983 GS1100E Red? Or a mix formula?

I have an 82 1100E. Do you think that was called maroon red? Seemed a bit lighter to me?

I was about to order any red I could find. If you have any suggestions I'd be interested.
On my end I was considering just going with a Swift Red or Vibrant Red. (There's also a SHimrin Red called PERSIMMON KANDY but I don't think it's being made any more).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I might be sending these guys http://www.automotivetouchup.com/spray_paint_matched.aspx a color sample to match the paint. They can put the paint in a spray can. For what I have to do a spray can and some clear coat in another can will be fine. I've used this place before for a car bumper and it sprays real nice....

The color for the '82GS1100EZ model was called "Candy Fancy Maroon"
it's a difficult color to match, it's tri-paint, a silver base, followed by a maroon, followed by clear coat. I got mine from http://www.cyclecolor.com but you have to have the paint code, (I've forgotten what is was, as it was a year ago when I ordered it, and I don't see it on the 3 bottles I have right in front of me right now) and it's a little expensive for touch-up paint.
I was looking for a spray, and the closest I could find would be the color of the Ford Fusion, Mazda 626, Mazda Tribute, it is called Sangria Red, but it lists two colors for them on each model, so I'm still doing research there. Like to respray my chipped fender.

I actually posted this a year ago, I guess it ran it's course and disappeared into the blogosphere somewhere, I can't find it anywhere in the system.

I searched all over for the paint for my Maroon '82 GS1100EZ, come to find out the paint is no longer available due to some of the pigments being outlawed by the state of California. I had almost given up on the color when I finally found it, the color can be found on the 2010 Dodge Ram trucks, Dodge calls it Inferno Red Crystal Pearl. Turns out that there are TWO paint codes for this particular color, one shade is darker than the other. The paint code needed is PRH.

This first picture shows the original side cover against the truck, as you can see it's a perfect match:

I had both side covers and the fairing painted, the only way you can tell that the side covers have been painted is by realizing the space between the S and the 1 is about twice the distance than the original, in my case the GS 1100E was painted on by hand, see for yourself:

And because I had some paint left over, I also bought this HJC helmet, totally disassembled it and had it painted to match then reassembled it, boy it was much harder than I thought it would be.

For the '82, this is a perfect match but for the '83 I'm sorry but I do not have any info on that color, the '83 was a brighter red, my suggestion is to do what I did, take your side cover with you to the larger car dealers and search around, eventually you'll find a match. When you find the color post it here, there are many here who would love to know what the colors are.

Just my .02 worth.

Color Rite is a good company, I actually walked into their facility in Palmdale California last time I was there and was told by them that because this color is no longer manufactured they could match it but it would take approximately two months. In order for them to match it they would need my side cover, they would scan it then start mixing sample paints and match it the same way that I did by holding the side cover next to the sample. Color Rite told me that they cannot guarantee an "exact" match but that it would be extremely close, if I remember correctly from over a year ago the price for them to do this for me was $65, not bad but I would lose my side cover for a couple months.

In fact it was Color Rite that told me the easiest way to match the paint was to go to the new car dealerships and match it that way and that this particular color would most likely match the Chrysler Dodge colors so, I guess you're right, it's close, it's pretty close. You can spend the money and time if you want, that's up to you, I'm just passing on information that I've obtained. ;)
 
DOn't quote me but I did find a guy on he wbe who says that inferno red pearl is code pel, then there is blaze red crystal which is prh code.

Both are highly similar and should be a good match.
 
I've found both PRH and PEL being designated as "Inferno Red Pearl" in some sources.

You and wirelessguy are both correct, that's the same thing I ran into that's why I show the picture of the data plate in the drivers door that shows the paint code as PRH.
To me the best thing to do is remove the side cover from your bike and take to your local Chrysler dodge dealer and check the color for yourself.
I used PPG paint on mine so don't be shocked by the price if you go with the same PPG paint.

I've heard that also, but I chose the Sangria Red of Ford, Mazda, and I believe Mercury. I haven't bought the paint yet so I can't see how close it is once it's sprayed. For me it doesn't have to match perfect as it's going on the front fender, not up against another red panel or tank. If you drive around be on the look out of a Ford Fusion or Mazda 6 (the new body style), Mercury Mariner, or Mazda Tribute (the Mazda version of the Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner and see if it's a closer match than the Dodge.
Truth is it's just a popular color and it seems to me all car companies have a very close color to that.
 
From the Ford side I thought the code FN Toreador Red (not Dark) May be a good match too, but I never had a panel to put up against it.

Toreador Red is readily available at most car parts places but I never thought of it as a good match, at least not for the Candy Fancy Maroon,
the '83 GS1100 is a basic standard red, no metallic in it I think. I would think it to be the easier paint to match.
