A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am working on a 83 550ES for a friend i am not 100% sure how the petcock works (prime,on,res) should prime be used for starting only? Since these are dual throat carbs what do the other two hoses do? are they vent and overflow?. This particular bike is very hard to start and keep running once it is warmed up the bikes seems to run fine at constant speed however when you accelerate from a stop the bike will bog and stall
I have cleaned the carbs and made sure the pilot and main jets were clean Thanks! for the help.

You should not need to use the prime function unless you have run, (or drained) the carb float bowls dry of fuel.
As far as your drivability problems go .....
How do your plugs look?
make sure there are no air leaks at the rubber manifolds, try spraying WD-40 or something with a straw on it. direct the spray toward possible leak areas and listen for the engine note to change, (up or down depending on what you are spraying). a trouble some area is usualy at the junction btwn the intake manifolds and the head. there are circular gaskets in this area.
I am sure that others will chime in on this also .

My carbs have 2 extra hoses. each one comes from a carb (from btween the carbs) and routes up onto the top of the frame rails. They do not connect to anything. just vent hoses I guess. If you need any pics of anything just let me know cause I can email them to you . My bike is still somewhat apart while I finish the Gixxer bodywork.

Thanks! i figured they were vent hoses but was not 100% sure. I need to check the plugs since it has been run recently.

Those two lines coming from between the carbs are overflow drains for the float bowls I believe. Am I right people?
